I may be a girl but was weaned on the wonders of mechanics and am still fascinated by the innovations of man.
As opposed to the innovations of Woman?

It is particularly interesting though to add another dimension to a programme, in this case not just the history, but projects that were a result of bad decisions or not given adequate planning and were therefore abandoned.
There is something very romantic about abandoned relics, as not only do they tell us a story about the past, but have a unique beauty of their own as works of art.
One of my favourite computer games is called S.T.A.L.K.E.R which is set in an abandoned Pripyat and the tense atmosphere the game creates with all the decaying structures and ghost towns is incredible. I would actually like to visit there and I think the radiation levels are now low enough to allow some form of tourism. I read an article recently that wildlife like wild boars are thriving because they have no predetors and the radiation contamination seems to have had no effect on them. The game levels are based on real locations in and around Prypyat including the Cherbobyl NPP and iconic big wheel where the families lived so it would be surreal being there. I also love the sound of the language and might even shack up with a Ukranian woman
I just discovered there is an episode of Abandoned Engineering called Silent Cities which coveres Pripyat so I have to see that.
I want to go there too. There's a lot of YouTube videos of people going on the guided tour. I'm so jealous.
ooh thanks Zooo I will have a search on youtube. I would be up for a BGC trip but I would need a good shotgun as the place is full of bloodthirsty mutants and zombies. Or so I've been lead to believe.
Lol, naturally.

Looked it up and website says 11am Sunday: https://yesterday.uktv.co.uk/shows/abandoned-engineering/episodes/ so I will definitely be watching . . .

And plenty of vodka. I can't stand the stuff but when in Rome...
I think I've become slightly addicted to the game so the sooner I visit and see it's actually a tranquil and vegetation filled area it might be a kind of therapy.
Somewhere else I want to visit because of the story behind it:

I looked at that page and didn't notice! I'm working tomorrow and have no way of recording it which is typical because whenever I work at a weekend there is something really good on TV I'll miss. Hopefully it should be repeated soon on the same channel so I'll keep an eye on the listings.
That channel really confused me when I first saw it because they would say "great shows coming up on yesterday" eh?

I steer clear of computer games as I find them compulsive, as like a kid in my bedroom, on playing Doom years ago at work I'd find myself still there when I should have gone home like everyone else not realising what time it was just doing 'another 5 minutes' over and over and over . . .
Places like Epecuen are just fascinating . . . and anyone who finds this kind of stuff boring has no soul. Anywhere that tells a story has to be interesting on any level, but to have other dimensions too has kinda made Abandoned Engineering my new favourite programme . . . and these channels repeat such progs all the time, but there's a 'watch online' tab on web page anyway for ones already shown if you miss.
Antonio did just great, a neat win Porchugle, so neet.

Regarding Abandoned Engineering . . . also caught Mission Space episode today - and I always knew about the monkeys in space thing having been fascinated by rockets and space since I was old enough to grasp the concept, but is so repugnant just to see these innocent animals in these capsules . . . and if anyone is tempted to post about whether I have ever bought and wear make-up, please resist as I do feel that's cruel too . . . but these guys were sent up in tiny prisons to almost certain death.
Thanks for telling us about that show by the way. I just managed to remember in time to turn it on and see the Pripyat bit.

Wow - I thought interest would be minimal, but it's so important to at least learn about this stuff that I even think they should show it in schools, as kids would never choose to watch in favour of computer games - the irony there being that the virtual worlds they may be playing in reflect real life and real history . . .

I hope you are not going to turn into a Misery Martin.
Why is everyone else talking about priapism?
Is it in a leaked manifesto?
