One thing here always puzzles me - if Scotland is such a drain on British resources, why is the British government so reluctant for us to leave.

I'd imagine that border and military security issues would be touchy subjects. What if you decided to allow (insert name of enemy country here) to house troops on bases just a few miles from the border?

One thing here always puzzles me - if Scotland is such a drain on British resources, why is the British government so reluctant for us to leave. I ask this as a genuine question. It doesn't make sense.

Imagine Scotland leaves the Union, and for the sake of argument, does badly from the move, becoming an impoverished and reactionary state. That's a recipe for extremism and revolution, right on our doorstep. We don't want kilted terrorists planting IEHs (Improvised Explosive Haggises) on our streets.

If you did leave, by far the best situation for England would be if you actually *did* do well. With the grave uncertainty over your oil, it's hard to imagine.

I just knew it would be the IEHs!

The stereotypes that some throw around at "jocks' always tickles me as although it is still true that some still have a very bad diet, many health food shops have been thriving around where I live (and near where I did before moving to England) for last 20+ years, and I have never seen longer queues outside Greggs than I did in Bristol.

But as a non-conformist leaf muncher since birth, I am not interested in criticising any other collection of people based on geography, so my fundamental concern in this new mess we've 'democratically' created (based on lies and misinformation) is that division always generates potential conflict, as by default, instead of being a 'union', it could become one side against another.

Diversity forms the beauty of the world, but unfortunately it's differences that also divide us, so I would vote accordingly to avoid any more of that.

Dear Diary,

And after nine very long months of ordinary month size, a little baby jesus was born.

They called him Trigger after the man in Only Fools and Horses.

29 March 2017.

Now where's me folder of answered e-mails:

1.

Dear Alex Salmond,

The British Empire Is Over

I was interested to read your recent comment that the British Empire is over but seek clarification.

Would it be right to view it as a comment more on the historical role of Scottish people than the English, Welsh or Irish?

Obviously we can count out the Darien Scheme - the failed Scottish attempt at an independent Empire as that was before the Act of Union.

But Mackenzie and Devine are pretty certain that the Scottish people had a more enthusiastic role in many aspects of the British Empire including throughout India.

Plus of course the Scottish people took a more robust "Old British Empire" stance re Suez in 1956.

My question isn't merely a point. I would genuinely like a considered reply so that I can advise the Scottish people of today what you had in mind with your statement.

Horseradish Wave

Dear Nick Clegg,

Your Mother

I am writing about your mother.

But first let me introduce myself.

I voted Remain in the referendum even though I was disenfranchised because the two options were (1) hanging and (2) shooting.

My preference was to be in an EC/EU with a small membership as in 1996.

Having always voted for your party except when I voted Green, I am now in the ludicrous position of having to vote Tory.

That is because I accept the outcome of the EU referendum unlike the Liberals, don't want the break up of Britain unlike the Greens and can't stand Jeremy Corbyn or Nigel Farage.

Anyhow, my main question.

You mentioned your mother in a parliamentary debate as an example of someone who would be disadvantaged by Brexit.

You also indicated the length of time that she had been living in Britain - it easily predated our membership of the EEC from 1973.

How exactly will European people who have been in Britain since before 1973 be adversely affected?

I genuinely don't understand that point at all.

Clarification would be helpful to help put the minds of anyone in a similar position at ease.

Thank you.

Regards,

Horseradish Wave

Horseradish - make a cup of camomile tea, sit down, take 10 deep breaths and go back to voting Lib Dem.

Dear Caroline Lucas

Scottish Greens Who Voted For Another Scottish Independence Referendum

Well, they went ahead and did it.

We are obliged to say "they" aren't we to adjust to the top-down structure of your party and others which insists that "they" are separate.

You can all choose whichever lens you want, of course, but ultimately it will come down to votes.

Please "congratulate" them.

There was only one topic in the world that they could have possibly found that would have been more important to some of us than the campaign against fracking. That is the future of Britain - and they have opened the door to its demise.

Scottish independence will lead to the rise of English Nationalism.

It will not be social democratic as we might on our more idealistic days hope.

It will make any British nationalism in the past look like the cosiest tea party at the Highland Games.

Be in no doubt it is a moment of disaster for any of us who believe in peaceful co-existence.

They caused it. Your party of England and Wales didn't. But voters here will see it differently.

On the day after Trump tragically ripped up key climate regulations, the sadder news is that I and others will never vote Green again.

Not happy,

Horseradish

Yes - especially as Juncker's family were Nazi and Alex Salmond's wife is now 79. Teary

Would have been nice if there was some other news - f**king Brexit all f**king day. They even cancelled The One Show so the twat with the Shredded Wheat for hair could interview some other twat and say the same twatting things all over again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again. Utterly f**king boring.

Nobody KNOWS anything. It's all guesswork and scare- mongering.

Doesn't that depend on what North Korea does next?

Does Britain or the EU have the best nuclear bunker?

On both sides.

Apart from that, I have to admire some of the presenters for being able to keep a straight face and be polite in the face of having to listen to some of the totally inane shite spouted by some politicians - Jacob Rees-Mogg springs to mind. Perhaps his nanny tells him what to say.

Can't be doing with it as it's depressing, so prefer to focus on funny . . . and just read in news (was last year, so old news, but brilliant) that Paul Hogan made an observation far better than Trump as Father Jack (because he is about as suitable for office as Jack is for the clergy . . . and with similar vocabulary and social skills) - as has drawn comparisons to Sir Les Patterson.

On jogging my memory online, I think the great Barry Humphries must have based his character purely on him as it's uncanny . . . a little exaggerated perhaps - and he is also a chronic drinker which Trump isn't, but that just compounds his ruthless behaviour as gross misconduct as he cannot blame the alcohol.

But you still can't beat a bit of Baldwin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtnlVKWg_6A
