Dame Vera Lynn

The "Forces Sweetheart" who kept everyone's spirits up during the Second World War with her uplifting songs and was one of the few to risk her life to entertain the troops in the "Forgotten War" in Burma.

Happy Birthday Dame Vera!

[i]For those younger viewers, it was her "We'll Meet Again" that was used to great effect at the end of Dr.Srangelove.

And no I don't remember her in the war as I wasn't born until the last months of it, before some wag suggests it.[i] Pleased

Good old Dame Vera. There is someone who deserved her title. Not like these Olympians who get a 'Dameship' for running round a track.

Will...............that could be me speaking.

Win a couple of races (so what) and covered in honours. Angry It's a farce and makes a mockery of people like Dame Vera who really deserved it.

Did Eric Morecambe say the best way of getting her to sing would be to start another war?

Many happy returns. Hundred years young.

I've seen bits of the documentary about her a few days ago. Astonishing life and career.

100 and still in great shape, especially her brain. A happy birthday indeed.

Happy birthday Dame Vera - although according to my Dad Anne Shelton was the real Forces Sweetheart.

Oh my god, your dad was Anne Shelton:O

When I saw the thread title I thought HGT was celebrating his own big day.

Sadly Old Rocker missed it by one year. RIP :(

Gertcha.....................I said there'd be one. Unimpressed

Typically vague thread title by HGT...so we can re-use it for his own 100th birthday. Very looking forward to it...see you all in about thirty years. :D

My titles make people inquisitive, and if I make it to a hundred it will be nothing short of a 'king miracle.

I'd certainly visit you then for a big birthday party if you allow. Mind you, I'd be over 70 myself by then. So I'm not sure I'm coming. I wish I had kept away from the booze during my 20s.
