Parkour Addict - Sketch idea

Just a quick idea, thought it had potential...

An interview room.

A man sits at a table with a microphone taped to his shirt, An interviewer sits across from him.

A beep from a camera turning on.

CAMERAMAN
Rolling.

MAN
Hi... Um, my name's Mike...I've been doing parkour for about the last five years...

INT. SUPERMARKET

Mike is shopping.

MIKE (V.O)
It only real became a problem about a year ago...

Mike vaults over the fruit aisle, spilling oranges everywhere.

MIKE (V.O)
I...I just couldn't stop doing parkour...

We see him being escorted out of the supermarket, shaking off security. He does a vault onto a car and gives security the Vs and runs off.

INT. BAR

MIKE (V.O)
It started affected my social life...

He is jumping from one stool to the next, spilling peoples pints as he does so.

He gets into a fight with someone, a friend tries stepping in to break it up, Mike runs up a wall and does a spin, landing and knocking into someone.

MAN (V.O)
I didn't know what to do...

INT. OFFICE

Mike is crouched on his chair, spinning. he leaps from his chair and onto his desk.

His boss approaches him.

BOSS
Mike.. Look, we've talked about this.

Mike is perched on his desk getting ready, poised.

MIKE
I know, I know... i just..

BOSS
I'm serious this time Mike, you...
(he sighs)
...you really have to stop doing parkour.

MIKE
I'm.... I'm trying!

BOSS
I know Mike, I know...

INT. INTERVIEW ROOM

MIKE
I've been doing good though, y'know? Three weeks clean to the day! Not even thought about it...

He looks twitchy.

A glint in his eye.

Camera POV.

He jumps up and spring forward off the desk knocking the camera backwards.

DIRECTOR
Cut!

MIKE
(running off)
I'm sorry!!

END

Needs an ending, really. Some of this could look funny, but this is a sketch screaming for a classic conclusion. Here's my shit idea: someone accuses him of jumping past their bathroom window being a nosey...yes, well, you get the idea.

I also like the concept of "indoor parkour", where he just jumps about office desks/the cornershop/coffins in a funeral home/etc: make the central concept a we bit odder from the outset. The advantage of this is, it would actually be funnier if the guy was shit at his invented discipline - if I were a producer I'd be concerned about finding someone acrobatic enough to do the stuff in your script.

I like your visual ideas, they're strong, but I just think it needs another twist somewhere.

Hello maffew

Read your sketch on Parkour. I think it defiantly had potential and is worth carrying on with.

The line I cant stop doing parkour made me laugh but then I do have a filthy mind.

The visual humour might be best to set in strange places. Like say for example if he was a funeral director (gappy) to have him jumping around the alter leap frogging pews as the funeral service is taking place with him screaming strange things. (Places were jumping about would be very wrong) (Or where jumping high would be very useful)

Maybe the more Parkour in hails the higher he can jump. As he starts to take less his jumps and actions become more pitiful. (You can steal that)lol

I think gappy right it does need something else in the mix its a little to much the same from start to finish. An unexpected twist somewhere around the middle maybe?

And my shit ending is surely he ends up in bed with Some one dressed as a huge parkour pen with arms and legs. He looks at the camera gives the old jazz hands and says I cant stop doing parkour :)

And as it is with addiction Is it him who's doing parkour or is it parkour who's doing him.Rolling eyes

Cheers.

" Is it him who's doing parkour or is it parkour who's doing him."

That's the sort of cod-philosophy the character coudl spout, like it.

Sorry, cocked up the quoting, couldn;t be bothered to click Back ; )

Ok cool - I mean I was just jotting down ideas really, I wasn't planning on doing anything with it - I was thinking of expanding it to an AA style meeting with a group of men either all addicted to parkour or other extreme sports? I don't know though, I quite like the interview room setting... I'm not sure sleeping with a giant pen really fits.. i was thinking of it as a very stoney faced sombre thing, like played completely straight - like a little snippet of something bigger.. if you've seen Jam, that's one of my favourite sketch shows.. it's not as good as anything in that, but hey... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qpn7C6r-WEM
