I'd always assumed that pork rinds and your scratchings were the same thing, but maybe I'm wrong. They aren't very popular snacks in most states, but we have a large Mexican population and they love them. They call them chicharrĂ³nes.

They aren't really bacon-flavored, though. Maybe want you want is something like this?

I think you are right rinds/scratchings except the latter has all the "bits" left on them (see above) and your link is about cooking bacon rinds, which is not the same thing as I remember..............No, it looks like I will never know what they were and be unable to taste them again as it seems to be a snack that has disappeared into the mists of time sadly. :( Damn!!

They were like short strips (1" to 2") of say streaky bacon that has been made to explode in a very high temperature oil.

I assume you don't mean these?

Oh, you already mentioned it not being them.
They're yummy either way!

Yes, and that is what they looked like although not so uniform, being real pieces of bacon.

My neighbor just brought over some bacon-wrapped pork loin that her husband smoked for 5 hours. It's tender, juicy and delicious. She also brought over a big hunk of hummingbird cake. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hummingbird_cake

How did it go wrong?

I'm eating a sticky date pudding with cream and rum and raisin ice cream. None of which I made.

It had sweet potato in it and they weren't cooked as much as I had thought, so when I blended it the texture was weird. No amount of cooking or blending could make it right.
