The Avalanches - Frankie Sinatra

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjfspM5sDIA

I didn't know there was a new album by them until I looked on Tim Farron's Twitter page. He's very keen on it so expect more of this sort of thing if the Lib Dems win a landslide victory in 2020.

It's an interesting track and I think it will grow on me. I like the ragga vibe to it. The Avalanches are ultra cool and this post prompted me to check out Since I Left You. I watched that video over and over in 2000. I only discovered recently that the entire album was made from samples. I knew that track was but didn't realise the entire album was and I think they were the first artist to do it.

BOB SERGEANT

Don't think he gets the recognition he deserves. I have quite a few of the albums he produced, and he worked on a number of classics.

Very interesting - thanks GK. I didn't realise that Bob Sergeant had been responsible for that many records. Polaris - new to me although I see there is a Frank Black and the Catholics connection. I don't know if I have posted Joe Boyd's A-Zs but at around 10 minutes each they have been very good and are ongoing. That is to say he's onto Round 2 now.:

Who's Al?

The Ali Thomson track (1981 ish) is by the brother of Doug Thomson who was with Supertramp.

Cool.

It's very, very wide ranging reflecting Boyd's truly extraordinary career.

Here's a good one from the first round A-Z (as opposed to the second round AA-ZZ).

The letter B - featuring Toots and the Maytals etc:

He's currently working on an album of Albanian kaba music which is in my Top 5 areas of world music - it is very affecting and unique:

I love Petra and I've seen her perform several times with my friends. She covered the Who's entire "Sell Out" album a cappella.

Interesting but sadly that clip is not available to access in the UK.

I've been watching George and Ira at the Proms tonight.

On Lamacq today - not overly keen on all of the lyrics - "never going home" is cool; the references to being drunk, addicted, wasted are lazy/cliched - but musically it's spot on - wistful, evocative, icy-warm - with memories of Cocteaus and especially the Sundays:
