I just want to see those 40 or so episodes of Celebrity Squares fron the late 1970s. Comedy gold surely?
This was just brilliant and might have to watch it again. Just how good was the theme music from The Goldon Shot circa 1974? Those strings... Jesus, loved it. The Goldon Shot was essential post-Sunday-pub viewing.

Watched again The Secret Life of Bob Monkhouse that was repeated on BBC 4 this past week and was reminded that his vast archive was given over to the Kaleidoscope archive, which means it will disappear into a vast black hole never to be seen again in its entirety - which is a bloody shame.

Really? You'd think that people like Dick Fiddy would be interested in saving the archive, wouldn't you?
This makes you feel that all your collections are worthless. What will happen to it when you're gone? Will anyone else appreciate it?
I've got a massive CD and vinyl collection as well as a few racks of DVDs plus shelves of books and lots of signed memorabilia.

I'm in that exact same position. Best thing I've been advised on doing is to get all the signed stuff valued and see if any private collectors would be interested. There's a market for everything so they say.

Do you really think so when you die? Everyone interested in your stuff will be long gone by then anyway.
Why not? People pay millions for a painting of some bloke who died hundred years or so back.
Admittedly it's not the same as owning a signed record but you hear about people spending thousands on a bog seat just because it might be the one Elvis shuffled off this mortal coil on.
Y'never know, between now and yourself passing on you might do something incredible that gets you loads of fans so when you do go someone might be daft enough to spend five grand on used tissue just because it might have one of your bogies on it.

That's a thought because I have got a terrible cold at the moment so instead of flushing them down the loo....

Sounds like you know nothing about Kaleidoscope.
A fine group of people, they work with the BFI, producers and broadcasters to find, catalogue, and archive content. They hold their own screening events, and AFAIK everything is fed back into the companies' holdings.

Thanks Aaron - that sounds perfect. I'd defo be interested in attending certain screening nights - a perfect outing for a nerd such as myself.
