Well they can be very funny at times.
I'm loving their series The Pubs That Built Britain about - well Pubs!
St Albans tonight but the Cornish one showed several places I'd been to.

I'd been to a few of the places in the St Albans one.
I think the Hairy Bikers are great but I do think that Dave can be quite childlike in a "look at me, look at me" way with the way that he mentions Kingy at the end of almost every sentence.
Thursday evening's edition showed London pubs.
They visited the Anchor on the South Bank which was the venue of one of our early meet-ups.
I've been watching this for the past few nights and it makes me thirsty every time.

I saw the one in Manchester and enjoyed it. However, there was an odd bit when one of the bikers went to a well-known brewery. Standing beside a massive vat of wort, he was invited by his guide to have a glass of it. In fact, each of them had a glass that was dipped in to the vat. Well, it could have been my imagination but I swear that the guide only drank half of his and then said something along the lines of "enough of this". Then that he threw the half that he hadn't drunk directly back into the industrial vat which seemed a bit questionable to me.
Anyhow, I went to a pub yesterday and for the first time ever I encountered a beer by this very brewery being served. It looked pretty good but with memories of the programme it left me with a dilemma. There was an additional dilemma in that the name of it was a dodgy pun on the word beard and the bloke serving had a beard and could take my reference to it as something of an insult. Actually he wasn't happy because I inadvertently stressed the word precisely as if it was an insult but luckily the pint was fantastic and had a nice grapefruit taste.
Do any of the hairs ever get into the food?
They should wear hair nets
Hygiene first, hygiene second

That's exactly what happened. I was a bit surprised, because I'd suppose that some sort of regulatory agency would frown upon such a thing.
Sanitation is key when brewing beer and breweries spend a lot of time and money keeping their equipment clean, because an infection can ruin a batch of beer; usually the worst that will happen is that a batch will be soured by bacteria. In the case above, the beer is being held in an open fermenter. It's an old fashioned way to do things and there's always the chance that some bacteria or wild yeast could wreak havoc with the fermenting beer, but as long as large amounts of the desired yeast are pitched at the very beginning they'll tend to overwhelm any undesirable nasties and eat all the sugars before the bad guys can get a foothold.
