Isn't Jenny Eclair shit? Page 5

Eminem?

Did I spell it wrong?

No, I just wondered what Eminem had to do with Jenny Eclair.

Nope. I just don't think he 'gets' what you mean.

I was going to put Jenny Eclair on the 'Things that piss you off' thread, but I see she has her own thread, the title of which encapsulates my feelings towards her, reignited as they were after hearing her on I've Never Seen Star Wars. She's been pissing me off for decades now.

I don't really mind her, but then I don't really watch that many of the shows she's on. She wasn't that annoying on Never Seen Star Wars, but not particularly funny either. And 'not particularly funny' is a criticism that can be levelled at a lot of comedians, not just her.

I think it's a bit cruel to have a whole thread devoted to the proposed concept that Jenny Eclair is "shit", when we don't have a balancing thread discussing whether or not Sue Perkins is "f**king abysmal". :(

Angry

I'll 'ave you, Walker.

I think you have to agree that we're both to blame here, zooo: I for writing these horrible things and you for reading them. But I forgive you. Hug

Jenny Eclair's okay I spose, but I think her style of comedy's getting old hat now. Same goes for Jo Brand. Sue Perkins? On the surface a complete lightweight as a standup, from the televised stuff I'v seen, but she's very sharp and idealy suited to the panel games she's become a fixture of. I like her a lot on these shows, she's very funny. Far from abysmal.

she is truly terrible
her "comedy" is
like the childish ramblings of a homeless person.
fortunately she seems to get about as much
media attention as her "talent"
deserves.

f**k all

Although I'm not a huge fan of Ms Eclair's brand of humour, she does seem to get quite a lot of abuse based on her gender ...

Slightly ironic given the thread title, but I saw her once crack a "joke" about some man going down on her and she he wouldn't have done that if he'd known that the last time she wiped her arse after a shit that she did it from the front, dragging the toilet paper over her front bottom......... Sick

And that's supposed to be funny - just plain crude.

I do agree with that Herc. She's known for such base humour. Saying that, there are so many male comedians peddling material about women 'smelling of fish' on the circuit, which isn't a pleasant topic of conversation IMHO.

Yuck! Jenny Eclair and Sarah Millican are simiar because they both have weak, unfunny gags based on boring, over used subjects. I would rather have a pineapple inserted violently in to my rectum than watch them.

The joke you mention Herc is one from way back when she began. Looking at Jenny Eclair these days, I have to agree with many of the comments. But I saw her Perrier Award winning show at Edinbrough and she was a phenomenon. In her day, she was ikkier than any female comedian had ever dared. She not only could match men for their base humour, but she could get a changing room full of rugby players to blush, whilst keeping her cloths on. But her shock factor has well and truly flown. I guess this is why Stewart Lee is lauded, he's one of the few who's managed to keep current.
