Thumbs Up!
That was my sensible one. He sadly died recently at age 81. The Ethiopiques are definitely an acquired taste:

They mainly hail from the 1970s. It is a very rich area of music and once you get it you really get it. I saw him in 2009 in pouring rain as per the link below. That was a year before I understood what it was all about but I'm glad to have had the experience. Much of it is soul/jazz but it has a very strong element of the psychedelic/hypnotic.
Thank you for being interested! :

From the same series - although atypical - a reminder of my second favourite blue nun. If she is still alive, she is about 92 now. I think she recently did a concert in London. If so, I would have loved to have been there:
Emahoy Tsegue Maryam Guebrou - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6V1uTFIPnk
The soundtrack from Windy City, I quite like Dennis Waterman singing.
Strumpet
I've got iTunes on shuffle at the moment so the last song was
Monkey Tree by Mother Mother

At the moment it's Trash by Econoline Crush https://youtu.be/9NrQNbN83EQ
And now after spending a minute or so looking for the last link it's
Alternative Alf Garnett by Carter the Unstoppable sex Machine

Thanks for the WOMAD clip. The way he plays sax, it sounds like he could be playing a different instrument altogether - more like something from the Middle East. Good stuff!

Agread. Lots of atmosphere. Here's a rytham and blues singer who always sounds like he's about to laugh.

That's fun. Reminds me of a more R & B/Bluesier Jackie Wilson.
