OK then. At Herc's request and no Sooty - it's not what you think.

As I mentioned before I bought the Miles Davis album in the first of the new partworks by Agostino.

Today I bought John Coltrane's Blue Train which was the second in the series. I didn't know it before but was aware it was a "classic". I was very impressed.

:O Did I say that? :D

Anyway, more of a traditionalist me and the ODJB is my type of jazz........

But I do also love Oscar Peterson

Cool. I'm iffy on jazz and might learn something. This is my first selection:

Rahsaan Roland Kirk - Ain't No Sunshine - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoIvMRdD6jU

(Way out there musician but listenable, accent very much on black, Bill Withers cover)

Gwilym Simcock - These Are The Good Days - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQO7cP34NQY

(Modern preppy type, starts slowly, stick with it, he does amazing things with a piano)

Alice Coltrane - Galaxy In Satchidananda - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJekN_fCqPE

(Very mad harpist woman, impossible to categorise, dare I say my favourite Coltrane?)

Stan Tracey Quartet - Starless and Bible Black - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUNuxalrCis

(A classic mood piece from the sixties, gloomy but thought provoking, one of the best)

I had an HMV voucher and was tempted to get a boxed set of Mahavishnu Orchestra albums for £15 but in the end I bought half a dozen other rock/pop things.

Maybe next time.

I'm sure Herc wouldn't consider Mahavishnu Orchestra as Jazz though.

Bought their second album Birds Of Fire a few weeks ago.

Nels Cline is my favourite jazz (and every other genre) guitarist.

Nothing wrong with jazz fusion, have a couple of this man's albums I bought in the early 60s - Indo Jazz Cool

Another Trad fan here, but like the 50s US stuff like Mingus and Monk and Miles too, love that New York Jazz vibe. End of day though gimme a Kenny Ball number to get in that Trad groove, Daddio.

A man after my own heart Alf. :)

Chris Barber & Ottlie (fab jazz singer), Kenny of course, Acker, Humph etc. etc.

So has anyone else picked up on these 180gram vinyl albums?

The Miles one was £4.99, Coltrane's was £9.99 but from now on - Billie Holiday, Herbie Hancock, Dave Brubeck, Mingus etc - £14.99.
