How come I've only just discovered these guys?

I have the CD (album). The single "Since I Left You" is a boardwalk classic with a very distinct vibe but I didn't take to the rest of it much, not that I gave it a fair go. I have now finally tracked down the train song I liked on Talksport (no pun intended) and apparently it is meaningful to those who know "Breaking Bad" (which I don't):

Can you remember how you first came across it?
The album has a pretty devoted following -

Yeah, that's nice. Wasn't familiar with it either.

A very good album. I've not got to know all the tracks yet but "Tis Pity she was a Whore" is one of my favourites.
The packaging is superb though. As with most Bowie stuff he gave a lot of creative thought to how it would look. I'd recommend this version. you also (apparently) get a free download of the album which I'll look into so I don't have to play it too much.
Got the cd on Wednesday, and have played it twice now. Am also impressed. My kids like it too, and they've never been particularly interested in him before, even though my son likes other stuff from the late 1960s onwards.

I can't actually. It was issued in 2000. That was a period when I was no longer following the singles chart closely, the NME was less of a Bible and things were tailing off a bit (except for live gigs), only to be rejuvenated by Napster and then Spotify from the mid 2000s. Nevertheless, Since I Left You reached No 16 in the UK singles chart and NME gave the album 9 out of 10. I'd have picked up on those things. It does sort of straddle indie and dance which I have an ear for more than main dance - I guess we are talking post Leftfield, Moby etc. There is also a bit of a parallel with the later The Go! Team's Thunder Lightning Strike which I also liked a lot and bought.

My favourite band. I've seen them about 30 times over the years and one of the highlights was seeing them in their home country in Birmingham in 2007. But nothing tops meeting Mr. Townshend backstage before a show in Tampa in 1997.

Thanks for the response - nice and meaty, as usual.
Saw the Go! Team less than a year ago - lots of energy and lots of fun.

Quote: Chappers @ 10th February 2016, 5:31 PM GMTJust bought a couple of vinyls in a Charity Shop and listened to the Far Corporation album featuring "Stairway to Heaven."
I'm still waiting for that one to turn up on 'Pointless' at some point! Decidedly average album though, given some of the talent involved (i.e. most of Toto), tho always liked their take on 'Fire and Water' and it does have a couple of good commercial 80s tracks ('One of Your Lovers' and 'No One Else Will Do') so not a complete write-off.

One of my favourite early 1970s albums.
