David Bowie Fans Page 8

On Breakfast this morning the musicologist Howard Goodall (has made some excellent documentaries on all forms of music, watch them if you can and all round good egg, his credits include one of the best ever TV theme tunes - Red Dwarf), was advocating to have David Bowie's "Heroes" as an England sports anthem, which we do not have as the Welsh and Scots do - God Save the Queen not really exclusive to England of course.

Sounds good to me. :)

Ramble. Ramble. Make up rubbish. Wear make up and/or frock. Ramble. Ramble.

A short look back at Bowie's career:

So you still go hiking with Transvestites, interesting.

I'm still in shock about Bowie.

Don't agree with Nr. 2 (I'd replace S&V with Ashes) otherwise a fine list. Of course some of my faves are absent but you can't have everything, can you.

"Man, she punched me like a dude" - these have got to be the best opening lyrics ever! Loving Bowie's Blackstar album, it's a bit crazy, a bit errie, meandering all over the place with brilliant saxaphones and jazzy bits. Genius really.

I think I had all of his albums except for Tonight and Never Let me Down and the first one.

My top 10?

1. Heroes
2. Star man
3. Drive in Saturday
4. Boys keep swinging
5. All the Young Dudes
6. Life on Mars (featuring the great Rick Wakeman)
7. Sound and Vision
8. Miracle goodnight
9. Under the God
10. Sorrow

OK - that was really hard and there's millions I've missed out. Purposely put in a couple of obscurities because I like the Tin Machine stuff which seems to have been overlooked although EVERYONE knew he was part of the band.

That would be close to my TT Chapters, replace 4, 8 & 9 with TMWSTW, 5 Years and JIOD. Oh and 5 with WITW

I do like your inclusion of Sorrow, candidate for best cover ever? Along with Blondie's DD possibly.

My daughter bought me a DVD of a compilation of some TV interviews from various countries. A lovely and funny man.

There goes my Man Crush.

For anyone familiar with the video clip of the Bowie/Bing Crosby duet Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy, this imitation by Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly is remarkable for its closeness to the original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJBFD-Wvc7U
