Best sitcoms this year

Sorry, annoying question. We've had a baby, and so therefore I haven't watched television in the last year! what's come out?

Sorry, annoying question. I haven't been paying attention to this forum, and I don't live in the UK, so therefore I can't think of having seen any good comedy this year.

Some icons to make that sentence happier Wave Lovey Console

Welcome. I don't really understand your question though - do you mean that there's been absolutely no good comedy broadcast on UKTV or that you've dismissed the lot?

Hah. Sorry I've edited my post. I haven't watched a lot of TV this year, been busy with a baby. There hasn't been a lot of good Aussie comedy though.

Actually! I tell a lie! 'Upper Middle Bogan' Season 2 came out this year! It's absolutely excellent! I totally recommend it to everyone. Skip season 1. watch season 2!

Thank you, that makes much more sense now! We had a baby back in 2007 and I ended up watching the *strangest* things during night feeds, such as a programme about our local bus garage!

I'll look out for those shows on cable (if they transfer over here) I love Kath and Kim.

Upper Middle Bogan is made by some of the same people as Kath and Kim, and it's better. I'd say Upper Middle Bogan season 2, is the best Australian Sitcom in 15 years, since Leno & Woodley came out.

Those midnight feeds were really strange. I had the BBC world service on, watching all the refugees everynight. It looks like everyone in Europe is really happy to have them. Wave

I shall look outo for them on cable.

Yeah, Europe's really happy about it.

Is Chris Lilley doing anything new? Sorry to treat you like our Australian news correspondent.

OK, the answer, catch up with Peep Show, Orange is the new black (US).

The Kennedys. Came out of nowhere and was just brilliant from start to finish.

I haven't heard of anything from Chris Lilly for a few years, since Johna from Tonga. I don't follow him closely though.

Of course, Peep Show! Thanks!

I'll look up The Kennedys. Thanks.

As Australian correspondent I can tell you it's been a quite year in comedy. The ABC have had budget cuts.

All the usual people have done things:

The Chaser seem to have lost their edge completely. I think the ABC can't do any daring political satire while this Liberal government is in.

Michallef did a sitcom 'The Ex Prime Minister', which just happened to come out about the same week Prime Minister Abbott was sacked as an amazing coincidence. It's far from Michallef's best work, but worth a view.

Josh Thomas has done more 'Please Like Me', although it seems like more of a drama. I can't understand why it's always in the comedy section?

Working Dog put out another season of Utopia. I haven't watched it. It probably wasn't bad if you like that kind of thing.

Gristmill put out a hugely successful second season of Upper Middle Bogan, which I've already mentioned.

The new comers were terrible:

The ABC have been pushing 'Black Comedy' - a sketch show made by Indigenous writers. Lots of racial observation comedy as you can imagine.

Nothing much else has been noteworthy.

Everyone's watching Amy Schumer.

Comedy dramas included here and there.

New: The Kennedys, In and Out of the Kitchen.

Returning: Catastrophe (series 2), Up the Women (series 2), Bluestone 42 (series 3), Uncle (series 2), Moone Boy (series 3), Peep Show (series 9).

Excellent, I'm trying to get all these comedies. Thanks.

I usually avoid American comedy, but I must put in an honourable mention for South Park this year. I know most people who've seen South Park gave up on it 10 years ago, but each year they seem to out do themselves. Season 19 takes the piss out of political correctness. It's completely absurd.

Uncle aired on SBS this year. As did Man Down .... actually that might have been last year. I guess both would now be available at JB if you want to buy them. SBS have aired a few UK things over the last couple of year. My problem is I don't watch it enough to see them advertised.

I didn't watch The Ex Prime Minister. As you said the timing was coincidence but something about it put me off.

I think Please Like Me would be a dramedy.

Maybe defining it like that helps ABC fill their quota of local comedy and drama. As you said there has been little else on.
I remember the days when Wednesday night was must watch comedy night on ABC.

I don't get Amy Schumer.

People Just Do Nothing was the best, by far. Also unmissable is the final series of Peep Show.

Car Share was spoken highly of, though I didn't enjoy the first episode enough to watch the second.

Boy Meets Girl was alright, if you're easily pleased.

It hasn't been a tremendous year for UK comedy.
