Hmm. I'm pretty sure it was still illegal to be gay in the 60s! (Some kind of weird law was changed in '67 anyway.)

I'm sure you and your mates weren't like that, but that doesn't mean the laws (and certain sections of society) weren't still insane.

Yes, it was illegal but you wouldn't think so if you visited certain areas. I won't go into all the details, but I remember on one occasion when I was on a training course (staying in the Heathrow hotel) we got talking to this Arab guy who was clearly packing a heavy wallet and he offered to take me and two others into London to "get some action".

So, we pile into this black cab and tell the driver what we were about, BUT he misunderstood the situation (four young men) and took us to this pub somewhere (god knows where) and as we entered it was absolutely packed from wall to wall with gay men.

The innocents that we were, we quickly high tailed it out of there and told the taxi driver what WE were looking for (birds of course) and he tried to set us up with some local "ladies of the night", but I think our age was agin us and the "adventure" fizzled out back at the hotel.

It was an experience I will never forget. Cool

:D

I'm imagining the Blue Oyster bar from Police Academy.

In Tasmania it was not legal until 1997. I only discovered this a few years ago and am still a little shocked by it.

Now I'm shocked by the fact that we still don't allow same sex marriage.
The newish Prime Minister has said that he will let us all vote on it in 2017. If we are good little children and re-elect his party at the next election.

At least he will let us have a plebiscite- which seems to mean that they make us all vote on what we think but don't have to change anything if they don't want to.

I guess we should be happy about this - the previous bloke seemed to be under the impression that it was his decision alone.

Ugh.
It's a weird mix of being glad some of the stupid rules are changing, but being totally mortified this all wasn't over and done with bloody decades ago.

I'm watching Farscape - The Peacekeeper Wars.

I always loved this with the gorgeous Claudia Black.

Seems strange to have aliens with Australian accents but really no stranger than aliens with American accents that we take for granted.

George and Mildred - S5, recorded from ITV3.

I watched that today. Look at Tristram nowadays.

Oh my word - he looks older than Jeffrey! Do you reckon he's moved to Hampton Wick yet?

Totally. I expect he was given a free house.

Ooh. Jeffrey Fourmile was a little bit sexy for a while.

Even with his 70s pornstar moustache?

No. Specifically just in that picture!

He looks a bit like a young Donald Sutherland in this pic.

I thought exactly that. I've never fancied Donald though, I must say.

My late father had a 'tache throughout the 70s. Unfortunately his death in December 1980 meant that he could never update his look.
