Also, I am truly amazed that the sketch comedy genre is extremely popular on TV, yet on stage you usually find "stand-up"(performer who shares personal point of view etc) kind of comedy.

Not always. Think about Paul Merton's Impro Chums at the Comedy Store or indeed his headliner shows, the last of which also featured his wife, Suki Webster and long-time collaborator and pianist, Richard Vranch.
