99% of PC is in peoples heads. My kids school did a nativity, santa came to their playground organised by the loacl council. Ftaher xmas was all over the town decorations.

I can not think of one way in which my life is affected by "pc'ness" I suppose the only change i notice to 20 years ago is there is less obviously christian stuff at Christmas time......but so what, the country is less christian now than in was. If they're going to pick a made up character i'd rather see a fat bloke with presents than a dead bloke stuck on a cross.

There are more christians than muslims

Yeah, I don't want the religious bits of christmas either! Santa, reindeer and snowflakes, please.

Yea we can have all that, hanging off the dead bloke.

For now.

Where do you people live? Is there some weird anitEnglish antiChristian ghetto I haven't heard of. The shops near me charity or otherwise are ramjam full of trees, lights and what not.

I think what your talking about is commercializations not PC, or rather a different form of PC (economic rather than political).

There's millions of Hindus, Jews, atheist, Scientologists with money. So if you make Xmas non denominational, and all about reindeer, presents, and Turkey abuse, that even more money for the big companies who make all the real money.

As for Them and Us. Notting hill riots, League of Fascists riots in East London, to name but a few. We really rubbed together nicely in the jolly old halcion pre PC days. Sorry but the past is generally a sentimental lie.

What? I didn't say anything about the past. Stop reading things which aren't there just to satisfy your own "PC is a myth" arguments! I said that the effect of these PC measures - perceived or actual - SOLIDIFIES them-and-us attitudes, ill-feeling and bitterness. It doesn't create it. It's not something new. The effects of "PC" seem to just reinforce the attitudes it tries to stop.

Nothing to do with the jolly good old wasn'teverythingperfect past.

I haven't noticed any lack of cards with Merry Christmas on or Christmassy decorations up either. Obviously different areas and different councils are very... different.

(too many differents?)

I've found that it seems to be getting more and more difficult to find a card saying "Merry Christmas". They're around, but when and where I have looked, have been FAR outnumbered by "seasons greetings", when there's any wording at all. :(

Blame Christopher Hitchins for being so sexy and persuasive, blame Rowan Williams for being a boring old beardy chops. Christianity is in decline, and Englishness is evolving, and transforming into something new, is that so bad? Give Islam a generation or 2, and they too will have a massive drop in numbers (it's already happening)

Hooray for Jews, Hindus, Christians, and Pagans becoming one polyglot mass of drunken capitalists.

I'm talking 2006, this last xmas there were more lights/trees up than ever here, it was a sort of defiance

I dunno. Maybe our definitions of 'different' differ, and do so as the subject differs.

Hm.

How about a different dead bloke, with baubles.

Yeah! Let's just have 'religious' and 'non religious'. And then lock up the former. For being mental.

No it doesn't, it may feel that way, but really it isn't true. Racial violence, and prejudice is in decline. It's that fact that people now feel they can talk about it which makes it feel like it's more obvious.

Nothing to do with the jolly good old wasn'teverythingperfect past.

With the dead bloke?

Yes. He's the ringleader.

That f**king dead bloke!

Yeah, him that hangs around
