Race. Society. Prejudice. PC. Page 5

No it wouldn't. It would probably be political correctness, and would certainly be f**king stupid, but it's unlikely to be on racial grounds.

n.b. you have me back to front. I meant BBs right as an English person to wave her flag. Denying that would be racist, which of course I oppose.

Again, I'll stop you right there.

You don't half like stopping me after two words. The UN definition is the one our laws are based on. Or perhaps we could join Vatican City, and Taiwan as none members (had to look that up). I suppose we could invade Vatican City, and force Pope Benedict to sing Mammy, in black face?

Force him? He'd love that.

That whole winter lights thing was invented by the papers. Very little of the 'PC gone mad' stuff the Daily Mail etc 'report' is actually true. If any.

Papers definitely talk it up, but it's not complete bollocks. I remember seeing Christmas-y scenes, Father Christmases, angels, all that kind of thing, up in lights in public when I was younger. Now it's just twinkly lights, icicles, and rope lights. Maybe it's just coincidence that that change has come along at the same time as all the PC stuff - but it's still a change for the worse IMO!

That's the dangerous side of PC right there. That people believe it, and it drives an even bigger wedge between groups in our society.

Whether or not it's true (in order to be believed), precisely. The ill-feeling created by "PC" measures just solidifies the them-and-us attitudes and bitterness which it supposedly aims to quash. "Bloody Muslims. I f**king hate them. We can't have Christmas anymore because of them!" etc. What a totally disturbing situation we've got ourselves into.

What form of politically incorrect prejudice is it, to suggest the pope is a homosexual, a transvestite, a racist, and a singer of show tunes?

Pope-o-phobia

Pop-ism

and if you make such statements, have you Poped yourself?

Laughing out loud

xmas 2006, charity shops were stopped from having christmas decorations, there were none in any of the shops round here

Not quite sure I follow. Do you mean that someone stopping her from waving the St. George's Cross or Union Flag would be racism?

Doesn't make it right though, does it? Probably makes it wrong by default, actually. Laughing out loud

I was living in Birmingham during the whole Winterval nonsense, and there were plenty of fat jolly men in beards paid for by the council (I was working in a homeless shelter arf arf!), but no there were plenty of Santas as well.

As for Them and Us. Notting hill riots, League of Fascists riots in East London, to name but a few. We really rubbed together nicely in the jolly old halcion pre PC days. Sorry but the past is generally a sentimental lie.

99% of PC is in peoples heads. My kids school did a nativity, santa came to their playground organised by the loacl council. Ftaher xmas was all over the town decorations.

I can not think of one way in which my life is affected by "pc'ness" I suppose the only change i notice to 20 years ago is there is less obviously christian stuff at Christmas time......but so what, the country is less christian now than in was. If they're going to pick a made up character i'd rather see a fat bloke with presents than a dead bloke stuck on a cross.

It was wonderful in the 50s, I can assure you

I've found that it seems to be getting more and more difficult to find a card saying "Merry Christmas". They're around, but when and where I have looked, have been FAR outnumbered by "seasons greetings", when there's any wording at all. :(

I would rather have the dead bloke.

Yeah, I don't want the religious bits of christmas either! Santa, reindeer and snowflakes, please.

Thats sad. I dont send cards. I hate them. I hate writing them & licking the envelopes. So I can not say I have noticed. :(
