I think it's a foul slur on the rainbow sheep. I live with one and she's pissed I tell you.

Gay sheep? Hm. Should they have their own anti-prejudice movement?

If you have something against a person of ethnic origin, ie you dislike them, for their colour, religion etc, then you are a racist.
If you do not, then you are not a racist.
I just looked up what a racist actually means.

1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

I agree. It's a pity that more people can't learn and understand those correct definitions!

PC is dangerous Sootyj and no one knows from where it stems. I am heartily sick of the rules. It infiltrates everything. We get confused, can we have christmas lights...whoops sorry...Winter lights. Can we have nativity plays? Well, who knows?

Can we celebrate St Georges day?

can we wave the union jack?

It has all got very dangerous & no one understands what PC actually means. It gets changed all the time.

I'll stop you right there. If you seriously believe that, then we're not even going to be able to think about discussing this on the same level.

Funny that looked it up on various sites, and found out some fun facts. As a term it was first used in 1793 in the US, in a land dispute. It's a term that pops up here and there, through out history, usually used by a wronged party to decry the intellectual flexibility of it's rivals. Certainly it was a term used to describe Nazi doctrine.

See you're taking a term thats more of an generic adjective (e.g. hot or cold), and nailing it to a specific point in time (like saying hot is always a 100 degrees). A Nazi state would make being nice about Jews politically incorrect, an Anarchic state would make any strong statement of view politically incorrect.

n.b. do you really miss a rather pitiful 1960s-70s show where mediocre singers, in black face, sing some rather dreary old timey songs to Pans People in big dress's. Are you even old enough to remember said show? Cultures progress and evolve, the dross and the dead weight fall away. The desire to return to the cultural forms of the past, is as peculiar to me as those people who believe Noah thought the dinosaurs to naughty to go on the Ark.

Though if we are asking for that, I demand a return of COuntry Ways.

Dictionary.

politically correct
–noun marked by or adhering to a typically progressive orthodoxy on issues involving esp. race, gender, sexual affinity, or ecology. Abbreviation: PC, P.C.

BTW.
I just wanted to add, that not a single woman on here has EVER pulled any member up for being sexist.

Women Rock!

can we wave the union jack?

One would suppose so. If some one would want to stop you, or the St Georges flag, I'd certainly join you at the barricades, as that would be a racist sentiment.

I agree. It's a pity that more people can't learn and understand those correct definitions!

According to UN International Conventions, "the term "racial discrimination" shall mean any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin which has the purpose or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment or exercise, on an equal footing, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural or any other field of public life."

I'll take that over the OED, which upto a few years ago described Jews as http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/909919.html not very nice things

believing the OED is the by and end all of definitions is cultural imperialism, something often seen as quite close to political correctness.

Neither have any men.

Men rock!

They smell though. :P

I just meant that women are more likely to pull up men for sexism.

No it wouldn't. It would probably be political correctness, and would certainly be f**king stupid, but it's unlikely to be on racial grounds.

According to UN International Conventions...

Again, I'll stop you right there.

That whole winter lights thing was invented by the papers. Very little of the 'PC gone mad' stuff the Daily Mail etc 'report' is actually true. If any.

That's the dangerous side of PC right there. That people believe it, and it drives an even bigger wedge between groups in our society.

Don't we know it! Bless 'em, the pretty little confused things do tend to get so emotional :P

Thats because we have to think for both ourselves & men. It can cause an overactive brain spasm, leading to emotion relapses. :P

When bb wondered where it all came from I was gonna say the media.
They shape our ideologies more than any government ever did. They tell us what to think and we buy into it almost every time.

Laughing out loud
There probably is a large element of truth in there!
