A great pop record.
I like it...the guitar solo makes it sound like an early 60s song.

Like it. Reminds me of Beck. Been mentioned a few times recently over on RYM, so good to taste a slice. Any album/track recs from anyone?

I have Comfort Eagle and Pressure Chief. Both quite enjoyable but nothing outstanding. I do find their songs/albums a bit samey.
Local radio - local footie.

Okay, thanks.
How did you first get to hear about them, if you can remember? They were never on my radar.
Listened to over an hour of this so far (thanks to Autoplay). Pretty good.

Wow - is that an approaching 40 branching out I am spotting? That odd day when you suddenly wake up having spent a lifetime saying country music is crap and go "erm, I've totally changed my mind, what's going on here?". I found it coincided with the start of a lot of ear and nose hair.
When you think about Springsteen, this pre-dates him by a couple of years:

Newbury was sheer class in my opinion - and a bit of an innovator to boot.

That's just the start. Then "things" don't work like they used to.
Merle Haggard? Oh God no! >_< There are limits.

The beginning of a midlife crisis? Maybe. Fact is, I've always been a big country-rock fan, most of my favourite music is in some way related to country & western: Grateful Dead, The Byrds, Poco, Neil Young, Ryan Adams Jayhawks etc. But you're right, as I get older I become more and more interested in the more classic ,if rebellious, acts such as Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson or Hank Williams. And let's face it, most of the country artists are first rate singers with great voices.

I don't know what you're talking about, he's a talented songwriter and a rebel.

To me approaching 40 means waking up in the mornings with several parts of the body in pain. Is this really getting worse?

I know it's a cover, but anyone who had a hand in this recording is a saint in my eyes: http://youtu.be/CvdmxszsDM8
My neighbors and I rented a party bus a few months ago and had a great night at a Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard concert. There were even fisticuffs involved.
I like Willie Nelson though.
Nice comments on country music. My favourite country rebels are the lefties because they are lefties in red neck territory. Elsewhere, some of the fun is in just how non-pc it all often gets:

Achingly beautiful. She melts my heart!
Incidentally, I use phrases like "melts my heart" because I mean it and also to be deliberately provocative. I recognise completely that it encourages accusations of being a wet c**t and doesn't play at all well in the shoot em up zeitgeist. That of course is precisely the point. It's a genuine punk rock going against the grain attitude - subverted. By rights, people should feel so terrified by it they go running for the hills. In fact, they do. I have often followed people around in Tescos asking them if they want a blanket and a hot water bottle. It's great. It really freaks them out. But only in the evening when they are fighting each other over the end date cast-offs:
