The eternal Mod.

New snotty Sarf London terrace anthem.

Half Hard-Fi - An aura of 2000s bling is now a pre-requisite.

But Half Clash - Urban Cowboys beat the Rest of the World.

Other likely reference points - The Faces and the Libertines.

Palma Violets - English Tongue

At least 7 out of 10. Very possibly an 8.

Album Title - "Danger in the Club".

Sarf

Had to Google the meaning of that. >_< >_<

Laughing out loud

I don't use it a lot as it tends to be a "from above" sort of word - think Ian Hislop - whereas I am a South Londoner sort of. I'm not sure that we say "sarf" exactly but it conveys an idea. Posher folk seem to believe that the plebs' way of saying London is "Lahndahn". I reckon it's closer to "Laandin".

Here's an earlier one by the Violets. They are most likely posers but their sound has a light vibe that isn't far removed from classicism. Plus there is an energy to it that has quite a lot of merit. I like them.

Actually, let's do this too. It is very easy to dismiss it as lightweight but actually it is quite brilliant. I love the way it combines key elements of rock and dance to provide an urban summer clubby vibe.

Hard-Fi - Hard To Beat

How many halves do you wamt? Get the hard-Fi and Clash references - but also thought about 68 Guns by the Alarm.

I really don't know much of what is going on outside the mainstream these days - although most of the mainstream is crap again but I can't be a hip right-on 58 year old.

About ten more than Chelsea.

Sadly, that's already too late.

Yeah....The Alarm, I see that.

And John Peel was hip at 65.

Give yourself a treat and listen to an extract from Anne Avril Nightingale, 75, on Radio 1.

Well last week I was in Norfolk and went to Norwich for the day.

Now where I live there is NO PROPER record shop in about a 10 mile radius. I went to Norwich for the day and I was overdosed! There were at least 5 record/CD shops as well as numerous vintage/antique stores. I bought the following CDs.

Dandruff - Ivor Cutler
Suicide (First album - a double CD version)
Cut - the Slits
Never a Dull Moment - Rod Stewart
Yessongs - Yes (live)
A Way of Life - Family Dogg (double compilation)
The In Crowd 2 - Empire Made - Various Artists.

This latter one is one of those gems you hear being played whenyou're in the shop. It includes Duffy Power, Billy Preston, the Mohawks, the Pretty Things, Spencer Davis group, Love Affair, the O-Jays amongst many others. Brilliant stuff! And I would never have considered it without hearing it.

Additionally from charity shops I bought :-
Yes - Pet Shop Boys
Man-Machine - Kraftwerk
Moondance - Van Morrison
Shout to the Lord 2 - Hillsong Australia featuring (the wonderful) Darlene Zschech

I think Norwich must be the most wonderful place in England.

Any thoughts on the new Clapton compilation?

It only covers the 80s, 90s and the 00s...so it's not that essential. And I bought the "Chronicles" compilation which covers similar ground at the flea market a few weeks ago. So the new one doesn't seem to be any use to me. On the other hand, the 3 disc version contains a disc of live material and a disc titled "blues".

What to do, what to do?

My view on Clapton ?

Sanitised, over rated and Emperor's New Clothes shit.

He's not bad.

Yes, but he had his moments, especially with Cream. Also, maybe I'm in the minority, I do like his singing voice. And he shagged the young Carla Bruni. ;)
