Omigod! You know Jimmy Saville used to do that with beans?
When I worked for Heinz in the late 60s, at the end of the month when money was tight our lunch consisted of eating the samples, so beans out of the tin and for afties the same with a sponge pudding. 
Cold baked beans actually are really yummy.
I hope that's not true about Savile. 
I can honestly say that I've never eaten mushy peas -- from a can or any other way.
