Carry On Forever Page 3

Whilst we're on the topic, as you're trying to learn English rather than American, it's recognise, not recognize.

Oh yes, thank you.

By the way, your favourite Carry Ons?

Very difficult question. Pinewood's just a few miles from where I grew up (and am sitting right now), so watching them is more than wonderful comedy for me, but nostalgia and local landmarks too.

Generally, the bigger a role Sid James has, the better!

I've always had a particular fondness for At Your Convenience, Girls and Loving. Camping, Up The Khyber Don't Lose Your Head and Dick are great too.

Never cared for Screaming!, nor much for Abroad, and only realised with Part 3 that I've never actually seen Emmannuelle.

But then I've not mentioned Henry or any of the medicals. Such a huge range to choose from!

As you say Aaron, almost impossible to tie yourself to one, but now I have thought about it, if I had to choose just one to take with me to a desert island it would have to be Camping. All the main crew and good old fashioned bawdiness. And for me glimpses of my period, the 60s - the cars, the girls, their hair, clothes etc. etc., which is probably why it resonates with me.

But Screamings the best! Probably one of the best stories, great jokes, very sexy and a real love letter/satire on those great old Hammer Horror films.

Camping maybe of it's time but it's actually pretty disturbing in retrospect.

Can't imagine watching one without him. I absolutely love him in Hancock's HH.

One of the less popular ones according to the doc (for an understandable reason)...but it does sound interesting to me.

How can Camping be disturbing? :S And Screaming didn't have Sid in it, so there. :P

The one with Corbett?

Less successful at the box office at the time, yes. Doesn't necessarily equate to less popular now. In fact, it's fairly regularly repeated, so I would be tempted to suggest quite the opposite!

More importantly, it's really, really funny.

The one with Corbett?

Yes, that's the one.

Good man! :D They made for a great team on TV as well as radio.

The Economy Drive was classic, and it never fails with me when Hancock says he found the washing machine still going with just a couple of buttons and a collar stud going round in it. Laughing out loud

I'm thankful for your suggestions, Herc, Aaron, Sooty & Alfred . As I'm trusting your expertise I'll use them as a starting point.

The one with Corbett?

Who took Sid's part according to the doc., which I didn't realise.

Laughing out loud Best moments at the beginning and at the end when Sid tries to hide the fact that he didn't switch off the lights and TV set.

There's a scene where Scott is so enraged by something; he has possibly nonconsensual sex with a school girl, then he storms back to the camp assaults a half naked Charles Hawtry.

This so impresses Joan Simms she attacks her mother with a goat.

Terry Scott then rapes her (Joan Simms that is not the goat or the mother).

I think Kubrick would look at that scenario and go "nah bit much"

The one with Corbett?

He brings a lovely actorly semi seriousness to the role.

Whilst being very, very funny.

It doesn't have the prurient, slightly tragic and perverted feel of some of the other ones.

You must have been smoking summat weird in your pipe when you watched it. :S

You could, of course, just buy the (almost) complete box set. 30 films for £30. Bargain.
