Favourite album cover

This is another one for those posy pretentious rock fans.

I always loved Roger Dean's covers for Yes, Uriah Heep and Osibisa but from a graphic point of view I think the best design was always Neil Young;s Harvest.

Came across this while checking there wasn't already a thread about this.

That's a tough one, there are dozens I really like.

For the moment it's either this

(What a beautiful painting)

or that

(I love those grainy 70s photographs...they don't make 'em like that anymore. There are lots of album covers similar to that but I like this one in particular because the simple font matches the grotty room in the background. And it helps that the music on this record is great.)

Look Lofty. That one belongs in the other thread.

I meant to say initially that I was starting this thread because actual records/cds etc could soon be a thing of the past.

What is the link for picture links?

I've forgotten and lost the cut and paste link Lee once posted.

Is that a single?

It's the US album cover. I like it because it was the mental hospital where I worked as a student in the summer of 1984. His brother sadly left/escaped a few months later and threw himself onto the local railway line. In three weeks, I turned the room of old files/papers that had just been scattered about on a dusty floor into a tidy and organised library. It broke my heart to see it all back to square one when the hospital was ultimately emptied.

Edited - This is the best clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9U_Jl5RZTUM

Americans, they rather see a rifle than an androgynous man. Still, a nice cover.

That is an interesting point but I am not sure it is right. It is a cartoon by one of David Bowie's friends, Michael J Weller. The album was released there in November 1970 but not in the UK until April 1971. The dress that features on the UK cover was used in February 1971 on his first promotional tour to the United States. He wore it during interviews despite the fact that the Americans had no knowledge of the as yet unreleased UK cover. I sometimes wonder what sticking a cowboy in front of a hospital for the mentally ill says. Various things could be read into it. I reckon the Americans may have had issues with it if they knew what the building was in reality.

Incidentally, I do have very happy memories of it. The sun shone all the time and the grounds were beautiful. I don't go along with the gothic horror angle at all. People have gone backwards in their attitudes in my opinion. A lot of people in there were lovely if sad. The ones you have to worry about are the allegedly sane and successful.

Not a comment on the thread, but my all-time favourite cover...
