Sitcom Stroryline Guides?

Hello funny (ha-ha) people,

Trying to write a spec script and am looking for any good links or books that are good on storyline and structure of episodes. Stuff that talks about opening scenes, bringing two storylines together etc. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

This is kinda what you're looking for... https://wisesloth.wordpress.com/2012/06/20/notes-on-writing-sitcoms-using-a-formula-plot-template/

He goes into the structure in more and more depth if you follow all of the links.

or.. I found this guy pretty helpful

I love Dan Harmon's story circle which I first heard of when Graham Linehan mentioned it at the Big Comedy Conference last year. Best of all you can read it online (http://channel101.wikia.com/wiki/Story_Structure_101:_Super_Basic_Shit)

The actual story idea is, by his own admission, nothing special. But what he adds is a sense of balance by making the opposite parts of the circle opposite parts of the story.

I'm not sure any description I give would sum it up fully, but it's well worth a look.

Yeah, story circles are *really* helpful, I've found.

Dan
