Tuumble will go for his fish and chips, and then a piece of him will die inside when he can only get moose and fries.
Thinking of emigrating to Canada Page 2
ROFL
Thing is, I always used to think that 'I couldn't leave' too. I'm just feeling that there's more out there and as I've lived 10 miles from where I was born for all but 2 years and never left Europe I think it's about time I saw a little more of this place.
Obviously there are family issues but my wife didn't dismiss it and we have 3 kids under 10 to think about.

Easy...get a v early morning flight, and sneak out before they wake up!
Suppose if you feel really guilty, leave 'em a note.
There's a nice line from the song Prime Time by Don McLean which goes very much along the lines of "Canada is nice, if you're fond of ice" which, I guess, says it all.
By the way Tuumble, did you hear about the absentminded Mountie who fell off his whistle and blew his horse?

No, I really, really couldn't.
(I mean ... I'd be surrounded by foreigners all of the time! )

Actually if he moves to the east coast he's going to have to get to like Fish and Chips that's their 'thing'.
Not Canada and Quebec, it's all about the poutine.
Mmmmmm gravy and cheeeeeeeeeese cuuuuuurds.
I could never live in a big city like England. I like open spaces and fresh air to much. Plus I'm a winter outdoors person I like skiing, snowbording, snowmobiling, snow showing, cross country skiing, skating, hockey, ice fishing, bonfires, ect..ect..
If you don't like the cold but like the idea of Canada, there is always the west coast like Vancouver or something. Beautiful majestic mountains, rarely ever gets snow but rains a lot (I guess like England right?)
As a graphic designer I would recommend some of the bigger cities.
The joys of living in America's hat.

I spent the Summer in and around Vancouver and it was wicked sweet. You have some fine country there.
Quote: ian_w @ February 27, 2008, 3:05 PMWe need immigrants too for exactly that reason and in fact we couldn't possibly
keep going as we were before they started arriving.
You've got me puzzled there. Why did we want to keep going on as we were? (How were we going btw?)
Quote: Curt @ February 27, 2008, 3:50 PMI could never live in a big city like England. I like open spaces and fresh air to much.
Eh? You do realise that in "open spaces and fresh air" you've just described most of England? Certainly most of the UK?
Quote: Frankie Rage @ February 27, 2008, 4:09 PMWhy did we want to keep going as we were? (How were we going btw?)
We were going like this (and still are to a very large extent) -
Lots and lots of old people, and a very small number of young people to support all the old people.
That's it in a nutshell. It's the root of many of the problems we are facing as a country. I could go on in specific detail about population pyramids etc is you want?
Does anyone believe btw that the Western governments were allowing this influx of immigrants because they really cared about them and just wanted to be nice?
Quote: Griff @ February 27, 2008, 4:15 PMIf Canada's America's hat (is it so bad, being a hat ?) then surely the UK is America's colostomy bag. What with the "special relationship" and everything.
No, surely eastern Europe's colostomy bag? We do get all of their shit, afterall.

No, it's because they're idiots.
I always thought of as Uncle Sams, much loved, and skid marked, worn old Y fronts.
Quote: Aaron @ February 27, 2008, 4:17 PMNo, it's because they're idiots.
You're going to force me into ranting about the aforementioned specifics.
