Shock horror from the Mail. A house bought in London fifteen years ago is now worth a bit more. Have property prices gone up in London then??? When did this happen?
I just highlighted that to show Hercules who Ronnie's son was.
I know lol. Saw it earlier today and just thought what a stupid headline.
Handles for Forks!
That is genius
Or more probably the media attention it got. He didn't like the tabloid press much. But having fellow comedians mock his work seemed to irk him.
I thought the NTNON satire was pretty spot on and valid etc if a bit sharp but he felt betrayed by it, didn't help that they were the ex Footlights brigade he'd actually made his name working with a generation earlier. Must have felt a bit galling, I wouldn't have liked it. The whole AC thing was pretty insulting to genuine comedians even some of the AC lot worship now. Is that irony or just snivelling hypocritical grovelling when the fashions change?
I know I'm going to feel a fool when you explain it, but "AC thing"?
Alternative Comedy?

Your last sentence really hits the nail on the head. I watched the Ronnie Barker documentary yesterday and wondered myself why RB got so peeved about it, ditto the Ben Elton anecdote about the party they both attended.
He left because he wanted to, as he said at the time. It is only television! Life is always more important and you can't be as clever, and in touch with the human spirit, as Ronnie Barker without realising it. He loved antiques. Good on him as I say. The trouble with characters like RB is that the public think he is their property and analyse accordingly. Hard to do when you only know a fraction of the man. People often do what they do best, not necessarily what they are most passionate about, and those passions change. I think many many many people would have loved to have done what he did. Saying enough for now - when so in demand, and opening an antique shop to indulge his passion. I would have bought an ink well from him

Like I said - >_< Thank you.
Being a sparky I was leaning towards Alternating Current....now it makes sense.

Ditto ( In more ways than one! You know what I mean........ )

And the first thing I remember him in was "The Navy Lark" in the early 60s (Maybe late 50s?) and if you don't actually NEED to I'd give up part of my work too after 30 odd years.
