I don't know, I'm not Dutch...but what association does it have in English? In German extreme left wing people are often referred to as 'Zecken'...which means 'ticks'.

Better than being a nitwit.

(Not to be nitpicky)

I'd think "nit" was a twit or maybe a twerp. Something in that region. A "nitwit" is closer to a dim wit. Not much brain. UD isn't right in the English sense of (being) "nit-picky". It's making a big important thing of a small insignificant matter. Using "nitpicking" might be better. It is similarly used, whether it is grammatically correct or not. To my ear, it has less of an American sound to it. Nits are also head lice. Here endeth...etc.

Ah, the pride of Switzerland:

Head lice was the use I was referring to as in 'nit nuss'.
