And do you get paid? Sounds interesting. Might give it a go.

I've had jobs like that.
So jealous.
I think "Vicky" (as you insist on calling her) did write a question once.
What were your questions?
Paul and Chappers - sorry for delay. Bit hectic at the moment and I wanted to give you both a comprehensive reply.

Well, I was doing it for fun initially and thought nothing of it until they used one of mine in the last series (Series 9) and I received £40, which was nice.........
With Series 10, which has just started they have paid me £30 per Connection and £40 per Sequence, so there appears to be a sliding scale, depending the harder the question is to set, and Sequenced Connections are much harder to come up with. Haven't had a Wall accepted yet, which I think would be more money as they do involve a lot more work inasmuch you have to come up with 16 subjects, each cross referenced TWICE with a good reliable source (NO Wikipedia!) and to include as many red herrings as you can, and interestingly they give you a guide on how to lay it out as the eye/brain selects certain parts of the Wall Grid in a pattern it seems............
One other thing I have just thought of, and that is Picture Connections - these create problems of their own. Primarily they expect you to use Getty Images (they have a discounted contract with them), which although very comprehensive are somewhat American orientated naturally and so some of the more obscure British pictures/photos are not available from them. They (the Only Connect team) say they will contact the copyright holder of say a photo you have used from the web, but I have never found that to be the case - I had one photo connection that they were very keen on but one of the photos was not from the Getty collection and I think that is why they didn't use it in the end. If you look at some of the photo connections you will see that clearly some of them have been taken by the setter themselves and in that case you own the copyright of course, but as this has never come up with any of mine I'm not sure what the procedure is OR acceptance rate.
Have a go by all means, but at the moment there will not be anyone available to contact as the people to deal with directly are all freelance and are only contracted when a new series is due. The current series(10) and the previous (9) were done back to back this last spring and they will not be ready for series 11 until, I would think, next year as this series 10 is 29 programmes and has only just started.

Er yes, I do liken it to script writing - you bung sheets and sheets of say sketches in and if you are lucky they will use one or two - or none!! THEN you are up against the Senior Question Writers AND the Question Editor who also supplies questions.
" So jealous" ........? That's nice, for me - why not have a go.
Vicky - "insist"???? I have mentioned the lady only twice in this thread - once as Victoria and once as Vicky, and the only reason I did that in inverted commas was because that is the name they used to me in one email, which bemused me, like I knew her well, and that was the only reason for throwing it in my post - hardly insist though?
Can't tell you what the 6 are that they are using in this current series as they haven't told me and the only reason I knew they were using 6 of the 130+ was when the accountant requested an invoice - otherwise I thought I had missed the boat!!
The one that they used in Series 9 I can tell you about though, and that was a sequence, which was the parts of a wagon wheel (not the chocolate one before some other bod sticks their oar in!) starting from the outer edge inwards. So it went Rim - Felloe - Spoke - Hub, and I'm pleased to say one team got it wrong, by saying "Axle" (the axle is on the wagon of course) and the opposing team got it right for a bonus. Riveting TV!!
Very interesting, Hercules, thanks.
It's just strange referring to people in inverted commas, that's all...

You're welcome - I'm a strange person.
Gonna have a go?
OK Chappers?
Um maybe. I'll come back to you on it.

Lot of research!
I'm a bit too busy at the moment...
There's plenty of time.

Do you also compile for Round Britain Quiz?
"Taken as a group, Adolf Hitler, George Bush, Kate Winslet and Roy Orbison are more successful than Adam's companions Harrison Ford and Theodore Roosevelt, and Herman's pals Diogenes and Michael Jackson. Why?"
That was one of their easier ones of course.

Er, no - Only Connect is obscure and tenuous enough to set for!
Don't even understand the group you mention - did they not give the answer? Not that I can follow the logic when I listen to the prog. >_<
OR might be right - who knows? But is there a waxwork of Diogenes for example?
** The Connections I supplied haven't appeared yet, which is a bit embarrassing having told relatives and friends about them, and to look out for my name in the closing titles
But, the money went into my bank account last Friday, so who cares.

I don't know the answer either but Diogenes is a species of hermit crab.
So maybe a couple of the others are ants?
