The Last Waltz - by the Band. Got it for £2 from a charity shop. Next up is Gil Scott Heron.

That is too small to read! Who is it?

Well I could see it was on the Harvest label so had to be "underground".

Not really, but I wanted to post the picture ! :P

They don't look very black to me. (And it's too big!)

"The Revolution will not be Televised" Gil Scott Heron.

Excellent. I'm a big fan of GSH.

Very kind of you to say so Old Man.

This Gil Scott Heron album is quite good. "Ghetto Style" it's called.

"I think I'll call it morning."

Never had anything of his before but it was in the Charity Shop for £2 and I'd heard a few things I liked.

That's a compilation of tracks from the first three albums he released.

I've just checked the listings. It's got so many outstanding songs on it.

"Pieces of a Man" is in my all time Top 50 tracks by anyone, anywhere.

It is a very nice album. Didn't he die a couple of years ago?

Which one is you? The one on the right? Cool

He did and wasn't at all well at the end. His lifestyle eventually took its toll. Ironic in view of the warnings in many of his
lyrics but I think his immense ability was a burden.

"The black Bob Dylan" may not be exactly right - or fair - as a description but that placing is better than any alternative.
The last CD is flawed and still manages to be almost a masterpiece. It is certainly affecting.

I don't know if you are aware that his father played for Celtic? That surprising British link also matters somehow. Less
American than he seemed on the surface. More universal.

I discovered Gil Scott Heron about five years ago and really like him. His early albums are quite phenomenal in terms of the genres he was playing with and fusing together. His very last album was masterful too.

I considered going to see him in 2010ish when he played in London, but passed on it. Big regret.

Good comments. I wanted to see him around that time too - at Womad - but didn't get there. Apparently, his performances
weren't at all bad considering. I did see him in the early 2000s at Glastonbury when he was so "not there" I don't think
we stayed for it all. Very disappointing. The other time was at a concert for South Africa on one of the London commons in
1986. To be frank, I wasn't very familiar with him then or the terrain. It was actually my first outdoors gig. It was all a bit
confusing with people like Gary Kemp and Princess hopping around - mainly very poppy - and I think his was a cameo role.

So I feel that I never saw him live properly.

He has aged barely a day.

True, true. I can't deny it.
