Video of my first gig

Done my first gig last December and I have my second in a few weeks. Long gap between gigs I know.

Anyway I thought I'd share a video of my first gig just to get some peoples opinions.

Cheers for watching :)

I'm surprised this has attracted absolutely no responses during the entire month that has elapsed since it was posted.

It's actually rather good if taken as a whole.

Taken piece by piece, I'd say that Dave Woof himself shows great promise as a stand-up comedian. He's instantly likeable and he appears to be talking to the audience rather than simply reciting his act AT them. Many successful comedians, on TV and off, could learn a lot by watching him do that.

The material is a mixed bag. The opening joke about his being a good boy is excellent. The vajazzle stuff was weak and is no doubt based upon the long-standing belief among too many comedians that sex and bodily functions are intrinsically funny. They're not, although they'll always get laughs from an audience of scumbags and they'll usually get laughs from an audience of sufficiently intoxicated non-scumbags.

If you're a genuinely talented comedian, sex jokes - along with all your other jokes - should have to earn their place in your repertoire. Dave's departures into sex were unnecessary. The vajazzle stuff was (as I've said) weak and the stuff at the end about 'eating it anyway' was ill-advised as it was quite raw, and potentially highly embarrassing to a mixed-gender audience who appeared relatively sober and relatively civilized. On a stag night, of course, it might well have brought the house down if told with sufficient gusto. A classic case of horses for courses.

The rest of the stuff and its delivery had real potential. It needs to be be practiced and polished until it gleams but it's decent material and Dave Woof is potentially a very good comedian.

I'm not surprised because posting videos of first or second or even twentieth gigs and expecting valid advice and criticism is generally pretty pointless.

Giving feedback on a first gig is like trying to teach a toddler advanced football tactics the first time they've ever kicked a football.

Well done Dave, you've taken your first steps, do another 98 gigs and post up a video of your 100th gig and then I'll happily give some feedback.
