Yes. Put it in stage directions!

Isn't that what I said?

Harriet the Horrible sounds like something out of Chelmsford 1,2,3 Laughing out loud

Exactly! ;) Use words wisely my friend. Say as much as you can with as little as you can :)

that is wrong and the mark of an amateur.

No need to be rude (unless you were referring to my username, in which case fair enough). Was only venturing my - as it happens professional - opinion in case it was of use.

I'll leave you guys to your forum, and wish you good luck with your endeavours; though I'm sure you'll thrive as you already know all the right answers.

Other professionals come here too Adam ;) Good luck with your new show when it airs.

Maybe your reader had enough of an inkling before this point that they wanted to work with you.

I do think though that it needs to be made clear before to the directors etc - but what do I know?

Was that a flounce?
Damn - missed it!

In all seriousness I think this is good advice. Thanks Marc.

You're welcome D. It's true in scripts certainly.

Shame Adam has gone, debate is always interesting. There are many ways to skin a cat and as long as you are not the cat it doesn't hurt to talk about them.

Agreed debate is good. I think Adam thought straight away it was a misdirect when in fact it wasn't hence my scene example above. No worries though as we could have just talked it through as I like to hear everyones opinion. Not sure why he left unless it was a case of his way or not at all. Who knows?

Your post made that very clear - but by then the dog had the bone.

To be fair to him I don't think Adam has sent a spec script in. His show was at a different stage when presented for a reading working with colleagues and a co-writer who already had had successful. Dealings with the broadcaster with his earlier sitcom. My take was on a scrip sent in purely on spec with a reader having no knowledge of the writer - as most unsolicited scripts are. Sitcom is a bit different to other genres but a spec script should stick to a few basic rules in that regard.

Sorry, but as far as I am aware, that is wrong and the mark of an amateur.

Lee got it right, you must not confuse the producer as to how many actors he needs to employ. Too many actors ..-> too expensive ... -> waste basket.

Now why do you think that was rude, it was clearly an opinion not a dogmatic statement as edited by you. Furthermore it was a generic statement about how I felt a script written with multiple names for a character might be viewed by producers. It was not aimed at you since it was clear that you had the sense to come and ask about it.

And I hadn't even noticed that your forum name contained "amateur" until you pointed it out.

Magnanimous as ever, M. P - but he guy was doling out bad advice.

Don't you just hate people being successful doing things the wrong way.
