What actually happens in a sitcom? Page 2

What country is that?

Yes I'm Latka's nephew. This more important than your sitcom is it? Yeah had an idea it might be.

I'm still confused, did this character not speak English, where was he from?

He spoke English how Kipper writes - minus the Terry & June references!

I believe they never named the imaginary country he was from.

Good side character he was.

Or you could do what Sullivan did for OFAH, Rick & Ade and other sitcom writers did to build some episodes. Not as frowned upon as sticking in a flatpack plot, pilfer/borrow/get inspiration from a favourite or similar sitcom. Most writers have done it to some degree.

I have to be honest, Kipper. I genuinely do not understand a single word you post.

If you write a nonsense poem does it come out as standard English?

It could be you are a little thick Lawrence. Who knows. It's quite clear what he is offering as advice to you. Whether you want to take it on board is of course entirely your decision. Might behove you, meanwhile, to be a bit better mannered about it mind you. :)

He garbled out his gibberings
To plotless teenage prat
Who did not like the kipperings
As much as Alfie's cat.

I like it.

"wrongs" "slayings" kipperings"

It's not English as we know it but who needs rules, eh? It's like plot in a sitcom - purely optional.

Anyway, we need to talk about Terry and June.

Nothing is as we know it.

Well it's on Drama most nights.

Extreeeemely dated!

I understood Kipper perfectly well and have no idea why you find it so difficult to understand him.

Anyway, your original question. It doesn't matter what the plot is, all that happens in sitcom (and any story) is conflict. Conflict between your characters, conflict between what your characters want and what is going on and if you want to talk about flaws, this is just conflict with how we expect someone to be or behave and how they actually are or do. Any plot is just a device to highlight your conflicts.

Hopefully the audience laughs.
