Blues music recommendations Page 3
Quote: DaButt @ April 22 2009, 8:57 PM BSTThere was another Florida teenager who (in my opinion) played better guitar than young Derek. They were about the same age and even shared the stage at the wings joint one evening. I just looked him up and it seems he's touring with an American Idol winner. Hmmm.
He sounds very good indeed. I do like the artists who blend the styles and introduce a bit of soul into the equation.
And for everyone with a passing interest in this thread, BBC Four looks to be essential viewing next Friday:
21.00 - 22.30: Blues Britannia - Can Blue Men Sing The Whites
'Nigel Planer narrates this programme kicking off a weekend's celebration of blues, with contributions from Keith Richards and Bill Wyman. Running at 90 minutes, this documentary begins by exploring the impact of American blues artists on British shores in the late 1950's - artists such as Muddy Waters.'
22.30 - 23.30: Blues At The BBC
'Archive blue performances from the past 50 years, featuring songs by Son House, the Kinks, Eric Clapton, Freddie King and Delaney & Bonnie.'
Closely followed on Saturday by the best of the blues performances from Jools Holland's show.
Saw this guy in the blues tent at the New Orleans Jazz Festival yesterday.

He was playing a Strat that looked like it should have been in a museum.
I suggest this.
I love Gary Moore. And it's the almost predictability of the songs I like too.
Jonny Lang - Lie To Me
Found a bloke recently called Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Very good.
Quote: Mick Green @ 21st April 2009, 1:13 AM BSTAdd to that excellent list:
Walter Trout
Kenny Wayne Shepherd
Jeff Healy (RIP)
Only just saw this. I discovered KWS as it was playing when I was in HMV in Oxford one day.
I mentioned elsewhere Funkydory but they were ressurected as Northsyde.

Ronnie at his finest. Great vocals too.

Not a big blues listener, but the album he did with Stephen Stills (The Rides - Can't Get Enough) was mostly excellent.
