I know we Liberals cause all the trouble....
I read the news today oh boy! Page 1,639
I traveled to the West Bank and Gaza, had Palestinian friends, heard and saw plenty of oppression, saw farmers unable to pick olives on their own land because it was near a settlement. Saw the way they were treated and the way they were regarded, it was enough for me to make up my mind, it was wrong, it was planned and it was invasion, slow and planned
No I've joined the BBC is not above picking and choosing sides. I was there in the middle of a mass demonstration outside the BBC that went unreported, whilst a smaller demonstration by UKIP was.
Spain. we are agreed, but I'm afraid the days of fascism as a common enemy are gone, the lines are blurred, you cannot pick and choose because of some romantic nostalgia for a Liberal past. Wrong is wrong Sooty, anyway you want to paint it
What would you call then, clearance? social cleansing? Occupation? Oppression? slaughter?
Busy news day in the age of 24 hour news, who is fooling who here
Quote: sootyj @ 2nd August 2014, 11:18 PM BSTMore to the point why does the action of Israel so upset you but not the action of Syria. I'd genuinely like an answer to that.
Israel is in the news so were discussing it
There's no difference between a Palestinian person or a Syrian person or an Israeli person being killed - you know that
It's pretty offensive to suggest that anyone here grades the suffering of different races and peoples differently
Indian independence was a bloodbath as you well know. The Balfour declaration was an act of betrayal. No one denied Israel the right of a homeland, but not at the expense of another race, that is wrong, and is a running sore that scars the world, and this country was its architect. The slow and careful evaporation of Palestinian land is not an accident, it is planned and condoned by the west. The Arab nations sit on their hands, if this was happening anywhere else in the world there would be an uproar of mythic proportions, I fail to see your point
As for the situation in Ukraine we are asking just that, but we were discussing Gaza
Russia funds Assad
America funded Sadam Hussein
The worlds f**ked!
Whadaya gone do!?
Like I said the the other day
Someone needs to hit the reset button on this planet
Cos us humans don't know what we're doing
It's all a total bloody shambles !
Lord, send another flood and this time - don't bother with a Noah
The world is now ran on a consensus that is unsustainable. The consensus that says capitalism is the only path, to be effective capitalism relies on growth, constant and unending. It needs war and wars to hold up its crumbling architecture, to decrease population and keep the wheels of the war industry rolling. In a world of finite resources it can only lead to decimation, slow and criminal as in constant war or long and painful as in the slow stripping of all our natural resources, it leads to one place.

Well we're due another world war
And if you believe some people , Russia's actions lately are the beginning of just that...

Could be wrong but this statement is completely opposed to the Christian message. Unless of course you don't really mean it... Just getting angry and having a good old fashioned fist shake at something or other?
He's the pope leave him alone.
As long as he's not Italian that's ok then.
Firstly if you think this isn't a plutocratic society then do you ever leave the house. Who is being penalized for the actions of greedy bankers, it aint the bankers, its the poor, the sick and needy. That feels like a plutocracy to me. You don't think the US and UK don't bank and prop up regimes, you don't think the US is backing Israel in its war of terror in Gaza. The Balfour declaration was more than a piece of paper it heralded the death warrant and betrayal of millions of Arabs. To be honest Russia is no worse or better than the US, its human rights record is abysmal, but guess what so is the US's despite all its glorying in its libertarian stock, it kills backs and props up regimes that suit it. To keep saying because one atrocity went by unpunished and not held to account that we should do the same for this one is ridiculous, and frankly below you
Small wars big profits, there will not be a world war, it can't happen for obvious reasons, The money is in the small conflicts mate

If I could snap my fingers right now - and every human being on this planet just ceased to be
I would do it in a heart beat
Sure RP would drone on about the music and the literature and the blah blah blahh
Who cares
The world is full of war and famine and disease and murder and torture and rape and criminals
I don't believe in a 'hell'
But if there is such a thing - we may well be living in it right now
Communism has only been attempted once and that was in Paris. I think you mean Leninism and Maoism, and last time I looked China was still calling itself communist, socialism has never been fully attempted either, I think you mean the British Labour movement, which has and always will be capitalist with social engineering. Not the same things I am afraid
