Quote: George Kaplan @ 18th July 2014, 11:09 PM BSTSaw her/them at the Albert Hall, around 1978; I remember being pleased that they played a T Rex song, "The Slider", just before they came on stage.
Looks like it wasn't '78, but was the show you watched on DVD, from 1983. Only five years out then.
I thought 1978 was a bit early for a "punk" band at the Royal Albert Hall
From the new Yes album out tomorrow....
Sounds good. Apparently first album featuring the vocalist who replaced Jon Anderson about 10 years ago - Jon Davison.
The whole album is here.

Only other gig I went to there was Elvis Costello, around 1985, I think. Kim Wilde was standing at the back, looking very glamorous.
Saw New Order at the Royal Festival Hall, May 14 1984 (just checked date). Bloody great!

I saw Elvis there last year (or the year before) and saw Rick Wakeman at the RFH in 1973ish and Neil Finn a couple of months ago.

My mum played Scrabble with Rick. He's a keen player. Got a photo of them together.
She also knew Sting before he got famous.

Was the last one, "Fly From Here", any good?

Don't think I ever heard that. I used to be a massive Yes fan in the 70s but over the last 30 years or so they've become a bit of an unknown quantity.
Here it is.

I'm listening to the first track, an epic symphony. Pleasent enough. The singer, not the same one as on the new album, is nothing special but is far less annoying than Jon Anderson in his worst moments.
You've got a friend - James Taylor

I think his name is Benoit David.
Don't care - Klark Kent (AKA Stewart Copeland).
Not sure why this was cut short. I had this on green vinyl - Kryptonite of course.
Here's one for Old Rocker. Needs to freshen up on his Cockerney.

Will you by Hazel O'Connor.
Almost like 2 tunes mixed together. She stops singing about 2.40 then there's a 2 minute clarinet version.
I'm not a Yes fan, mainly as I can't stand Jon Anderson's voice - but I do really like both 'Drama' and 'Fly From Here' (i.e. the 2 he's not on) so pre-ordered the new album. Has to be said the initial reaction from 'proper' Yes fans is one of collective dismay ('the worst Yes album ever' is a popular phrase being bandied about) but the clips I heard sounded okay, so I didn't cancel, though I admit I was tempted. But I'd rather make my own mind up and it IS produced by Roy Thomas Baker, FFS, so can't be all bad!

Wonderful stuff. I was aware of this song. My best man from 1971 was from the East End and we went to a family do there which involved songs like this.
Probably all incantations from the Koran now I expect.
