I enjoyed this a lot. I would have preferred if you had never used the word mustard and ran with the other ways of expressing it as you did to kick off, and maybe a demonstration with it at the end showing a perfect chefs smear or the opposite. But I enjoyed it and you certainly didn't cut the cheese.
I agree, I was hoping you'd never actually get close to the phrase. I liked it, but once you did say "cut the mustard", the bubble was burst, and it kind of wore off a bit for me.
That was odd and enjoyable in a weird sort of way

Sorry, but it didn't make me laugh. Though seeing other comments it's probably just I'm not getting it.
I agree that mentioning mustard before the end breaks down the anticipation.
In terms of the delivery, I just felt it needed more pace, e.g.in the style of a shopping channel.

I'm just really starting filming my stuff and I now realise that between having a funny idea and then writing/planning/filming/acting there is a lot to be done. It's easy to have the funny idea and have a good idea in your minds eye about how you want it to look, but then actually acting it perfectly and capturing that on film is pretty difficult. When I've done a few more I'll probably start teaming up with people.
I agree that actually saying the phrase took away from the sketch. That was the main point when I was writing it, but then found that I had to pad it out a bit when I started filming, to get where I wanted and just couldn't think of any more phrases.
I'm surprised at how long it all takes, so will be trying to concentrate on being a hundred percent happy with the writing before even setting up a tripod.
I think that's the trick (he says, having never made a film of any sort in his life): get the script cock on before you start, and everything wil be that much better and less hassle.
I thought your performance was pretty good, but as someone else said, you could increase the speed and volume of the delivery by, say, 20% to parody the patter of presenters on these shows.
You could edit the video to cut out the pauses, which would make it snappier.

Yup my thoughts its very good but the not saying cut the mustard is the best bit
I quite liked it too, but agree that you need to focus on not saying "cut the mustard".
Bear in mind that it's also similar to Big Train's Cake Factory sketch.

It is also a good idea to just get out there and do it sort of on the job learning and when you see it actually made you can scrutinise it better and see your mistakes and fix them in the next video.
The more you film them the better prepared you will be for your next video, practice makes perfect.
What editing software are you using?
I didn't think it was that 'hot' . I can see you 'mustard' done this kind of thing before , and people are thinking 'Dijon' a good job . is this your 'sauce' material ? I would be very 'hp' if you would let me know so I can 'ketchup' on your work .
Thanks all. Good suggestions all round. I'm working on a version with all the pauses cut out. I've also dubbed on a bit of audio which takes out the main phrase.
Carlos, the software I'm using is Imovie 9 and I'm sure it shows. It really difficult to get clean cuts when you are using green screen. It's very buggy, when you give it too much too think about it gets really unhappy and crashes, then you lose your file. It's pretty wack but imovie 9 is the version where they introduced green screen, so that has really helped a lot. I've only got an old dual core macbook so it really struggles, but I'm getting there. It's just crashed as I'm editing which has given me a little break to respond here because it'll be about 5 minutes sorting itself out.

yeah I guess the joke is basically the same, I hadn't made that connection. To be honest I was more worried about the hands being too similar to 'look around you'. That big train sketch is so bloody funny. I forget just how good big train was. Alot of my idea's come from literal imaginings of common phrases, a bit like their brain surgeon/ rocket scientist sketch.
I guess anything I do, I will always want to add little surreal details, which should hopefully keep it original.
