How do the Voice Overs actually work? Is it kind of a news item rather than a sketch?
NewsRevue again! Page 110
Voiceovers are usually read out like somebody reading the news, simply a set-up line and the punch.
They are read out by somebody backstage, usually to give the performers time to grab a prop or don a wig for the next sketch.
They're prerecorded by the sound guy and he cues them in through out the show.
So keep 'em simple. I'd imagine Jack Dee reading some oneliners.
The main purpose is to give the cast 20-30 seconds to rearrange the stage.
OK - thanks both of you.
Incidentally I've only had things performed sporadically - only when I actually submit stuff. I missed the recent writers meet up because I forgot but really should get up there sometime to see the show. That would probably help!
Oh, I didn't know they were pre-recorded.
And yes, it's a very good idea to see the show, as it has a certain style.
Another show to see is the Treason Show which is based in Brighton. Similar to NewsRevue, but a slightly different style.
Everything's precorded, including the World Cup.
It took place last year in Swansea and I'm retiring when my accumalator on Inner Mongolia and Disputed Zone come through.
With Randy McNally in 3rd.

if you've got stuff that is nearer to the boundaries of good taste, then it's probably more likely to find a home at Treason Show rather than News Revue.
Bear in mind that Treason Show doesn't run every week in the way that News Revue does, so some uber-topical stuff might not work if it's going to be 3-4 weeks before the next show.
Week 4 credits; one of my VO's from last week was used again.

Just sent off a Queen VO and a Suarez song for this week.
And sent a Wimbledon song on Monday.
You might want to drop that Wimbledon song in Treason Show as well Bonzo, I know they're really short of them at the moment and it will still be topical for the July show.
Thanks Andy. I'm not sure what the protocol is for sending the same thing to 2 places though - Newsrevue probably won't use it, but if they do then they've effectively 'paid' for it and presumably 'own it', it's a bit of a can of worms.

It's no problem at all to send to both, so don't worry on that score. And it remains your work as you are the writer.

Neither of my songs made it on this week; .... but my JK Rowling VO was used for the third time! hooray!
Has anyone seen a running order / requests for this week?
thanks.
