Quote: Dr Sanchez @ 21st May 2014, 11:32 PM BSTWhat next? A scene in which Derek tragically loses a Digestive biscuit to a cup of tea mid dunk? "That was my favourtist ever Digestive biscuit in the whole wide world, I loves 'em, they just wants to be tasty, why does everything have to die?"
Derek - Series 2 Page 5
That is indeed funnier than anything tonight

The Office was just a fluke
How can you 'fluke' 12 episodes and two specials (total of 7-8 hours of material)?
Put it down to having not yet run out of ideas, or Merchant's input, but a fluke?
I once saw a football fan write that the Manchester United thing "proved" that David Moyes was an awful manager, and Everton was a "fluke" (11-12 years of fluking).
Making something awful now, does not mean he was always awful. People change, and run out of ideas.
If he never makes anything else worthwhile, The Office, Extras and Pilkington (plus occasional moments in LTS, stand-up and Derek) will still mean he has provided us with more great material than 99% of people in the comedy industry.

Absolutely.
Ricky has said that the lastest episode of Derek is the best thing he's ever written. Proof if proof were needed that's he totally lost the f*cking plot.
The thing that weirds me out is how entirely humourless he is about atheism and animal rights.
I mean nothing wrong with those causes.
But it's like Stewart Lee stopping mid rant and going
"sexism is wrong, don't laugh this is serious"
I mean how did he get away from this?

I mean I still laugh every time I watch these clips and I've seen them so many time.

As a massive pre Life's Too Short Gervais fan it's a question I ask myself quite often. I'm not willing to let Stephen Merchant be heralded as the genuis behind The Office & Extras as he was involved in the atrocity that was Life's Too Short and has made some questionable things since.
I suppose he just used up all his gold in his first few projects, Hollywood changed him or he died years ago and some lookalike took over.
Or, you know, all writers write good and bad things from time to time, and The Office was way too overrated for way too long.

Yeah but there's not usually the huge gulf in quality between the good and the bad that Ricky has shown. He went from writing very funny and well thought out shows to absolute ill conceived crap and has done so for years now. It's very jarring, especially when you know what he is capable of.
Cannot believe how much hate is still continuing on here!
Anyway, I really enjoyed Episode 5 as it made me both laugh and cry. I cannot believe it is the last one in the series next week! Hopefully there is a 3rd series on the way or a Special?
I know this is just a thing people say and it won't be taken at face value, but that was genuinely - *genuinely* - the worst episode of a sitcom (or whatever the hell he's calling this) I have ever seen. There was something terribly, terribly wrong with almost every single scene.
It was kind of impressive.

I think we're being relatively kind to it on here. Check out the "love" it's getting on Ricky's fan forum.

Bloody hell talk about putting the boot in.
I think I have laughed once during Derek:
Pilko: "80's still 80. You're f**ked"
