Pitch meetings

What are people's experiences? What's the best way to prepare? I've read a few horror stories online and I'm interested to see what people on here have been through.

Have you been asked to one?

I hate pitching, terrible at it. You just have to prepare and practice the most interesting and succinct way of putting across what the idea is. And make sure you sound excited in the idea, mumbling half-apologetically is not going to get the other person excited.

This is a really good book. It makes me think 'I should re-read it before every pitch meeting'. Recommended to me by someone very high up in marketing, and very relevant to 'our kind of thing'.

The important thing about pitch meetings is to remember to say thanks. Well, I say thanks - it's actually ta.

Is that an obscure joke about pitch and tar?

Not that obscure - you spotted it...

Here are a few obvious tips, but still worth mentioning.

1. Know your proposed project inside out.

2. They know most writers won't be experts at pitching, so don't totally corpse if you forget how to talk for a moment. Just take a deep breath, joke about "how you don't get out much because you're a lonely writer" and continue.

3. Think happy thoughts such as, "Well, they've asked me in for a meeting, so they are at least interested." Therefore, make them even more interested.
