The last evere episode of one foot in the grave
Or two foot in the grave as it might be called...
Paul Merton is in it!
I don't beleeeeeeeeeeeeve it
I remember finding that very depressing.
Yep
Good ending though
Louis Theroux's LA Stories "Among the Sex Offenders". Fascinating. Definitely shows why things like Megan's Law (and the UK equivalent, Sarah's Law) are complete nonsense.
Children are far more likely to be abused by someone known to them.
That was one of the most fascinating and disturbing bits of TV I've ever seen and has a genuine philosophical conundrum.
They can't be let out until they're cured, that scary boner chair.
But it would appear they can't be cured of the actual desire.
So do they stay locked up forever, or do you work on making them strong enough to resist them.
And is it right that the whole thing is run by a profit making corporation.
I think you start by recognising that there are levels of "sex offence" and they are not a) all as appalling as each other b) not even on the same 'curve'.
To have a 30 year old woman teacher who slept with a 14 year old pupil guilty of the same crime as a man who abused his two ten year old sons is a bit like having a single crime called "violence" and applying the same measures to someone who gets a bit punchy in a pub and a serial killer.
And that whole thing of trying to open kids playgrounds near half-way houses, so as to 'purge' the area was pretty sickening.
Good point, but I woulnd't undermine the damage that the 14 year old boy goes through.
Yes, that woman's story was truly heart breaking. The fact she has no contact with her children (despite quite obviously posing no threat to them whatsoever) was very sad. To treat everyone as posing an equal threat is ridiculous.
I thought the man who had abused his sons and was now the gatekeeper was the creepiest of the lot. The guy who kept flashing was interesting too.
It shows what happens when laws are made to satisfy popular demands rather than working out what is necessary to protect the public.
I hate to say it, but I think the balance in this country is actually rather good. Not perfect, but pretty good.

I was so happy that that failed.
It was obviously a deprived community - surely a playground is a good resource in any event? Yet they seemed to take pride in how small it was.

It is, which is why the Daily Mail et als ill thought out campaigns really scare me.
For example kids who have sex under the age of consent are technically sex offenders, all too often 14 year olds f**king 14 year olds.
The CPS goes out of their way to give them community sentences, therapy and avoid giving them criminal records.
Or just not prosecute them at all.
A 15 year old kissing another 15 year old is committing a sexual assault. They are sexually assaulting each other.
Perhaps, complex area all I know is as you said it seems to work.
I mean there's a lot said for not using health services as that tends to automatically pathologise behaviour,
nb hadn't seen that documentary in ages, they had a woman there for having a relationship with a 14 year old pupil that is crazy.
The US seems to have too much private in their state sector not least of all law enforcement.

I thought it was a new documentary? Hasn't he moved to LA in the last year or so?
maybe it was, he did one years ago I'll check it out.
Is it legal to make 2 docos about paedos.
Oh yes, I remember that one. The institution for sex offenders where they kept forcing them to have "treatment" and detaining them despite them having done their time.
He's made a new one. It is on iPlayer and definitely worth a watch.
It is the perfect documentary subject for Theroux. He is so mild mannered and unthreatening in his questioning technique, yet he gets so much out of his interviewees.
