I read the news today oh boy! Page 1,491

Another day, another dog kills a child.

If only guns had big eyes and wagged their tails, then they wouldn't have been banned in the UK.

It's a funny thing, our relationship with animals in this country. We've got far too many deer running around chewing up the trees, but instead of letting hunters cull them humanely and quickly, we want to re-introduce packs of ravenous wolves to terrorise the deer and rip out their throats, you know, because we love animals.

Now amended. Good catch matey.

There's nothing wrong with owning dogs, if you're a sensible person who takes responsibility and is aware of the risks.
Like they get freaked out and jealous when babies come into the house.

I remember seeing this woman with a pram and a pitbull with it's snout in it sniffing.

And I thought well that's a bit irresponsible

Then another woman sidles up and say
It's alright he loves babies.

And I thought you let your dog off the leash, running about sticking it's head in prams,
What a f**king world.

Animals can be trained not to kill things.

Like my cat. When he first came to us, he would scratch and bite and try and kill us. That's because his previous owners didn't like him very much.

15 years on in a predominantly female household he is now so used to being carried around the local church cast him as Baby Jesus for the infant's Christingle Service.

Guns can't be trained not to kill things.

One of the theories I've heard - not sure how true it is - is that the sound of a crying baby is similar to that of a wounded animal and dogs react accordingly thinking it's downed prey. Might be complete BS, but it's a theory.

I just find it strange in these health and safety conscious times that we would allow something that kills and maims so many children and babies to remain legal. Injury is the number one cause of death for children aged 1 to 18 and whilst we bring in traffic calming measures and childproof caps on bottles, we have taken a completely head in the sand approach to dogs in the home. Not even a public safety advert on the telly.

Yep. Wrapping him up in a swaddling cloth was a struggle, but we got there. Poor boy. He used to be such a big tough mouse/rat/bird/frog killer.

Awww, kitty Jesus. I'd totally consider being a Christian if Jesus had been a cat.

Not so sure about that, almost every cat owner I know has a story of their pet moggy ripping the head off a bird or torturing a mouse.

I've never heard that before. Does seem quite feasible.

Does he go outside?

Laughing out loud

And lo, the Son of Man stepped forth and started to lick himself...

In a roundabout way I kinda agree with you. Dog bites, dog mess etc are serious health hazards.

Dog ownership is the ultimate counter to the libertarian argument that people will act responsibly and socially mindedly when not forced or atleast pressured to.

Given the choice I'd like to see dog and gun ownership, seen as the same issue of responsibility, registration and good citizenship.

Guns more so, because well they're easier to use.
