I saw the UK Subs three or four years ago in Brighton. I was the oldest person there - apart from the band. You'd think that after 35 years they'd be able to play, but no...The gig was great fun though.

Loved them in the old days.
The Damned were always my favourites because there was the noise, excitement, originality and a touch of humour.
I saw The Damned in Coventry in their early days, and my abiding memory is going with someone who was wearing flared jeans. The shame! Like Lady Gaga at a Morrissey gig in her meat dress.

Being a loyalist I've, of course, bought the album.
But, if I had to sum it up, I'd say it's an album that proves what a great guitarist Wilko is.
And what a great singer Lee Brilleux was.

I've heard a couple of tracks from the album through it's heavy exposure on Radio 2.
It's also seeping into air time in a couple of rock bars I know which, right or wrong, I've always held as a measure of how successful these things are.
Not heard the whole album but the singles are very glossy. Is it worth a punt?

i would say, without exception, the original tracks are better than the versions on the album.
Wilko's guitar sound is a bit chunkier on some tracks - but that's about it.

Rog and Lee have very different voices - Lee had a dirty, menacing growl, great for bluesy rock'n'roll. Voice as razor sharp as a Stanley knife. Not someone you'd want to mess with.
Rog has more of a soaring, innocent, poetic, boyish, vulnerable quality. Must admit though I've been disappointed by Who live performances on telly in recent years.

Love Roger Daltrey's vocals - though he has gone off a bit with age - at his best on Quadrophenia IMHO.
He's just too rocky for that tight, nervy Wilko style.

New album from The Hold Steady is very good, if you like guitars and great lyrics and all that garbage.

I liked them on Jools when they were on, ages ago - had a Graham Parker type vibe I like. Saw the album got a good review somewhere too, probably in the Guardian.
