Most of modern comedy seems to be at the expensive of anyone who is seen as trying to better themselves, votes Conservative,

If they are trying to better themselves why are they voting conservative?

I always remember a Jonathan Ross joke about Heather Mills where he says (paraphrases) 'she lies so much she pwobabwe has two legs!' The disabled community went mad over it

Hopping mad infact

Also 500 kids disapeared in London last year, who didn't get 24 hour rolling coverage. Infact pretty much none, care to guess the ethnicity, and social background of most of them?

Native American?

When it comes to controversial subjects I think its wise to remember the words of Brian Conly "Its a Puppet!"

'At the expensive'.
Tee hee.

I have a feeling that if a serail killer went around murdering say 5 nurses, The victims would be refered to as nurses.
The media are insensitive arseholes anyhoo.
I dont see any difference between nurses or prostitutes. They are all working women. Unless he kills a male nurse/prostitute. (In which case he will be classed as a sissy/rent boy )
The fact as well that the detective, judge & lawyer may have slept with one of the 5 prostitutes always adds a bit of wink/wink to the case.

Prostitution has been going on since time began & will continue too. I reckon these women do the public a service. Ask Frostboy!

Maybe the government could do an NVQ in it?

The whole thing about them being called prostitutes is to do with public safety you numbnuts. Sorry just had to get that off me chest officer

Yea & then the non prostitutes think they are safe yet get mistaken for one.

Well I see they'res loads of points made here and I haven't read them all. Been basking in my own glory!

Gervais didn't so much poke fun at the disabled as people's attitudes including his wown character. I bet most of us have difficulty confronting serious illness and so have to try to laugh at it. The disabled do too to some extent (I'm with Stupid) because they have to live with it themselves.

Basically anything is fair game up to a point - and most sensible people know where to stop a;though other people's level of tolerance could be a lot shorter.

It's all subjective surely? I have heard some hilarious jokes about 'the disabled' and some that I find offensive, because they are based on ignorance and told in an 'I'm better than them' sort of way.

I think the prostitutes were seen as fair game by the Beeb constantly refering to five prostitutes instead of just five women.

Quote: zooo @ February 22, 2008, 1:55 PM

Good point.

I'm afraid you're both quite wrong. I heard most of the BBC bulletins yesterday and the victims were described as 'women working as prostitutes', which is a curious turn of phrase and is actually an example of political correctness.

The BBC didn't want to label the women as prostitutes since they believe this would have been derogatory, when in fact it isn't at all, it's merely an accurate job description and as Charley points out, people are defined by their job in life all the time. You wouldn't describe a bus conductor as a 'man working as a bus conductor', you'd just say bus conductor.

Well it's better than sex worker, that's a horrible term.

Angels of the Morning, Roxannes? maybe we call them Gordon Browns Foreign policy? Except he pays to get us screwed by the Yanks.

Spunkbuckets, sidewalkers, hoors.

Like, "bin man" is SO much worse than "waste disposal engineer".

Bin man, is what you call a Birmingham post operative transsexual.

Cos I've bin a man.

Maybe absurdly literal names are the way to go, Queen smiley old woman, who costs lots? Reality TV contestant, yattering, organ bank?

Quote: sootyj @ February 23, 2008, 10:48 AM

Reality TV contestant, yattering, organ bank?

"Scum" is more accurate.
