The reality is somewhat different. They mainly offer support and nursing services and occasionally carry out the odd study. Take the newly opened MacMillan Cancer Centre in London, it's full of the latest, high tech, cancer treatments - but MacMillan only provided 10% of the funding. "Sand Creek was a village of approximately 800 CHEYENNE Indians in southeast Colorado. BLACK KETTLE, the local chief, had approached a United States Army fort seeking protection for his people. On November 28, 1864, he was assured that his people would not be disturbed at Sand Creek, for the territory had been promised to the Cheyennes by an 1851 treaty. The next day would reveal that promise as a baldfaced lie.

On the morning of November 29, a group called the COLORADO VOLUNTEERS surrounded Sand Creek. In hope of defusing the situation, Black Kettle raised an American flag as a sign of friendship. The Volunteers' commander, COLONEL JOHN CHIVINGTON, ignored the gesture. "Kill and scalp all, big and little," he told his troops. With that, the regiment descended upon the village, killing about 400 people, most of whom were women and children.

The brutality was extreme. Chivington's troops committed mass scalpings and disembowelments. Some Cheyennes were shot while trying to escape, while others were shot pleading for mercy. Reports indicated that the troops even emptied their rifles on distant infants for sport. Later, Chivington displayed his scalp collection to the public as a badge of pride."

Welcome to history.

It always makes me laugh when people say stuff like "people have become so horrible nowadays".

We're the nicest we've ever been. Or, at the very least, today's society is restricting what the current "Chivingtons" (that kind of DNA must still out there, somewhere) can do, or get away with.

When you're driving through a supermarket car park and some dick just swerves into your path with a trolley and puts their hand up to say "thanks for letting me through!". I struggle to resist running them down.

The Tories U-turning on immigration. One political pundit recently quipped that Cameron was: 'Getting tough on Farage, getting tougher on the causes of Farage'.

But this pathetic display shows what a bunch of pussys they are when it comes to actually implementing policy. First Labour screws this country to the wall with a decade of open borders and then the Tories pretend to do something about it.

I can't believe people will vote for these parties in the next general election.

I think people would like to be able to cast votes against parties, instead of for them, so instead of voting for the Liberals because you hated New Labour, you could have just given a minus vote to New Labour, reducing their tally by 1. Of course, it might mean all the main parties end up with negative votes, and we end up being ruled by an independent candidate called Kevin, but I see that as a small price to pay.

Green party would win that every time.

Big Brother has proven that if you hold a vote against, you get left with the least offensive most boring people.

Might be alright actually.

Of course the reason people don't make a fuss about immigration and the main parties don't make a fuss about it.

Is most people don't care, they work with immigrants, maybe even marry them.

And it's just not that much of a problem.

I'm in favour of immigration. After all, we're all immigrants... apart from billwill, he was carved from the rocks by gods or something.

Way to totally skew the argument and completely ignore a huge section of the UK populace who don't share your view.

There is a difference between immigration and mass immigration.

Why don't you go to Barking and ask the people there if they care or not?

The politicians of all the main parties have all admitted to hiring immigrants. When your own politicians are screwing you out of a job for a foreign, then you know you're f**ked.

NHS, public transport, housing and school places - 'it's just not that much of a problem'.

You are Gordon Brown and I claim my 5 bigoted woman Scottish pounds.

There's a significant minority in England who want all immigrant sent back to Immigrantisatan.

And a significant minority who want Sharia law and tea time stonings on the telly.

Thing is they may be significant but they're still minorities.

UKIP, BNP, National Front have always been a useful club for embittered people, I suppose they have to go somewhere.

As for MPs sometimes hiring foreign cleaners, why not reply the next your MP advertises for a cleaner. You might find yourself with a respectable minimun wage job.

And if the disenfranchised of Barking want to vote BNP or UKIP they're welcome to. I think they had a few BNP counsellors once only they weren't very good, so didn't get reelected.

Hmmm.....Cameron, Clegg and Milliband et al are so quick to wave their pious fingers at other countries lack of freedom and fairness. We are soooo lucky to live in this paragon of democratic process and choice........Yeah right
