Yea, I agree. This incident is pretty much without precedent, and I'm sure the various countries aren't spending a lot of money to intentionally not find the plane. It's quite hard to say what happened with no plane.
Also, if the Malaysia government had leapt on every rumour, hoax and half-truth claimed by various sources, then the families would have been told...:
- The plane landed safely in the south of China
- It was seen as a falling fireball by the Vietnamese Navy
- It's below the location of two large oil slicks in the South China sea
etc.
... thus causing even more anguish.
However, at least they have the excuse of massive stress-levels.
Hanging is too good for the Chinese press photographers who have spent the last three weeks pushing cameras into their distraught faces at every opportunity.
No wonder the families started lashing out.
They know now ...
