Household name? Colin Firth was a barely known jobbing TV actor before Pride and Prejudice, it was that role that rocketed him into the showbiz stratosphere.

I'm saying that British productions seemingly go out of their way to cast plain or unattractive actresses as the lead roles. Please don't make me mention 'Call The Midwife' as a prime example of this trend.

But the woman, Jennifer Ehle by the way, was not in the least plain or unnatractive, she's clearly very beautiful.

They're definitely no Hollyoaks, that's for sure. Unimpressed

Laughing out loud

Ah, you didn't give it enough of a go. It's one of the best programmes of the last 10 years.

I dropped in, but the thing with TV as opposed to films is it needs commitment.

And the Walking Dead like a lot of other shows from the US, mixes pessimism and negativity to give a false sense of gravitas.

Like a self harming poet, who mumbles into a microphone about rape.

And well there's some very pretty ladies in the lead role, what are you talking about?

So let me get this straight, you slag off the best American television shows and call the cast of 'Call The Midwife' very pretty ladies.

I think that's all I need to know. No further questions your honour.

Not really. I find it exciting, fun, and compelling. With the occasional boring episode. But they throw those in to test you. ;)

I don't watch it, but the woman who I think is the lead, Jessica Raine, who was also in the Dr Who biopic (and Dr Who itself last series), is hardly terrible in the face department.

Straw man alert.

So to be clear I suggested that in a particular popular US sitcom 2 of the cast weren't especially attractive.

They were both very talented comics, which is why I watched the show.

Is that sufficiently clear?

But if you find zombies boring, that kinda is the whole theme.

True.
But there are plenty of eps where zombies barely get 2 minutes of screentime. Or none at all.

It just didn't grab me.

I flicked on to Line of Duty ep1 half way through, no idea what it was but it grabbed me.

I didn't like the Walking Dead comic.

Forgive me I don't like zombies,it's a very narcissistic and pessimistic genre which just doesn't appeal to me.

Someone's had a wander around Google, did you pick up any shopping whilst you were there?

Jennifer Ehle is not ugly, but the way she was made up in Pride and Prejudice made her instantly plain and forgettable. That's how bad British productions are, they go out of their way to make the actresses deliberately unattractive.

Yeah, I guess a lot of the time the apocalypse is more or less just the backdrop to the drama, I know I'd like it a lot less without the zombie-smashing though.

Yes but any program with Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood is going to be tangentially about cooking, not dogging, even if it's in the background.

Fair enough, I do love zombies. (I didn't read the comic either though.)

Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood ... dogging

Sick

That's the whole point of Pride and Prejudice it's her wit and brilliance not her beauty, it's why it's a protofeminist classic.

He's only bleeding picking on Pride and Prejudice now!
