What is your argument exactly? That having people on TV who don't meet YOUR standards of attractiveness has lowered the entire countires self esteem? That we should be worried because having a variety of different actors on our TV screens means people in Spain think our women aren't as attractive as theirs? I mean, sheesh.

I don't remember him writing anything about "martial arts". He mentioned "90210" among others...and you know, there really are chubby high school girls in America. Not only Top Models, played by the producer's daughters.

A quick browse through the 'Who do you fancy thread?' will confirm that assumption. My standards of physical attractiveness are only unique in Britain, go to any forum in the US, Brazil, Russia, etc. and tell them that you think Miranda Hart is gorgeous and you'll be laughed at by everyone, even the women.
As for the actor fitting the role argument, the low self esteem has spread to our writers, so the characters they create are ugly, plain, unsuccessful, dullards - it's a vicious circle of unambitious mediocrity.

So, creating an unrealistic, careless world of cuties such as in Friends is what you're calling "ambitious" or "above average"? Don't get me wrong, a show like Friends is absolutely ok, but the beauty of the actors doesn't raise it above Fawlty Towers per se.

Absolutely true. But I still prefer the old Mission Impossible series over the action shite Hollywood made out of it for example. (Again: my opinion)

Yeah, but you must admit the Golden Girls reboot was ridiculous! Maria Bello was completely miscast as Tyra Banks' mother.
How shallow some people are.... gloss, yoof, and looks do not equal success. Just take a look at most successful cop and comedy shows. Interesting and innovative always wins the day.

This is probably one of the weirdest arguments I've ever had on here. Someone is angry that the actors on American television dramas are too attractive. That the sight of their pretty faces and fit bodies is a cause of rage and consternation.
Furthermore, these television shows should be more like British productions and feature less attractive people, seemingly because it will make some viewers feel less threatened and insecure.
When I point out that UK television has gone the other way, that we feature far too many unattractive actors, people respond with anger. Not because I'm wrong, but because I'm intolerant - I should force myself to find ugly people beautiful. Which in itself is probably the second weirdest argument I've had on here.
