I usually agree with RC in the short time I've been here, but his argument revolves around whether you think all victims are equal or not.
(1) Man kills a random person in the park.
(2) Father of murdered person kills the man, or public cry out for the death penalty (etc.).
From RC's perspective, both are equally bad, because both the 'man' and the 'father' (or the 'state' if there was an execution) have murdered one person each.
However, in my mind, killing a random (presumably) innocent person is a completely different ballpark to killing somebody who killed a random.
In this Westboro case, I would say that celebrating the death of someone who caused so much misery is less of a crime than celebrating the death of a random (presumably) innocent deceased person.
If the Phelp's death celebrators are so awful, what other deaths have they celebrated recently? I would guess, not many. Most would certainly not do such a thing with the rabid randomness and prolificacy that Phelp's rabble did.
Now the Jade Goody stuff (online death countdown etc.) was despicable. And that's coming from someone who hated everything she represented (the holy trinity of ignorance, pseudo-celebrity and reality TV). However, despite all my grievances she, unlike Phelps, never intended any harm.
