There is a big difference, there were maybe a dozen placard wavers mocking the dead at the funerals, there will be millions sending messages of hate across a globe spanning electronic network.

Are you actually defending people who chose for some incomprehensible reason to mock people at the funeral for their loved ones.

As ever I have no idea who you're actually trying to start a fight with.

Ruth Ellis.

Wronged innocent or foul murderess ?

Murderess and most likely sane, I'm not sure she should have hanged

The death of her son seems a good reason not to hang anyone.

You silly sausage. It's because we're awesome and nice.

Sexist! ;)

How am I defending them? I'm just saying that people are a bunch of hypocritical tossers, who one second say that mocking the dead is totally unacceptable and then turn around and mock the dead of those mocking the dead.

Criticising dead soldiers is not the exclusive preserve of nutty pseudo-Christians, many radical Muslims and members of the far left (hippy scum) have done the same. They are all covered under the auspices of free speech and hearing unpleasant things is the price we pay.

A narrative has been created, a mob assembled, the hate fest has been planned, I'm just questioning if it's necessary.

I was guessing because RCP I have no idea what you're talking about and out of some perverse reason I'm actually trying to figure out.
The problem is I genuinely think you have no idea either, so I'm not sure why I'm asking.
As it is the response towards Phelps seems to be fairly subdued on all sides, I think people were only angry by his actions when he was vital.

Then you are thinking all wrong my friend. You have to look at the bigger picture and the way this narrative has been created by the media.

Who said the following -

'He deserved to die and I hope he rots in hell!'

A) A supporter of the Westboro Baptist Church

or

B) A detractor of the Westboro Baptist Church

Runaround...now!

It wouldn't be the Westboro as they had certainty of faith and thus would have said.

He died because of his sin and is burning in hell.

To work out the answer look at the 'he' in question. Is it a bloke who had the cheek to marry his boyfriend, or a bitter, twisted old man who got his rocks off emotionally torturing people 24/7. ;)

In the end they protested pretty much any funeral and made up a reason as they went.
It was a weird narcissistic addiction to publicity.

I loved the bit in the Theroux documentary when the church showed an antisemitic film they'd made.

As they thought he was Jewish.

Hehe. I always think he is too.

Justifying the hatred previously condemned. That's the hypocrisy I was alluding to. Even atheists are wishing he rots in hell - and that's pretty weird.

RCP I assure you when you, me or Zooo join the choir invisibule some one will make a death announcement in the local papers, or what ever they use in the future.

At which point some troll or trolls will call which ever one of us is dead, a c**t, shit poke, bum smell who is burning hell.

They would do so if Henry the Downing street cat died.

It means nothing, other than some people are dicks and feel free to be unrestrained dicks by the nature of the internet.

For all that it's worth if TV crews hadn't bloody filmed them all the time, people would have lost interest and so ultimately would the church.

People some times like a scrap, I mean Hope not Hate opened a project opposite the Westboro church, pretty much to annoy them.
That is pretty much a dictionary definition of a contradiction in terms.

Can I be the bum smell?

Does that chat up line ever work.

Once again R.C makes a valid point but in the most aggravating way possible.

Present an opinion in a package of slightly offensive language, enough to throw that the actual topic off itself and encourage the debate the view, rather than the debate itself.

The sky is blue but your mum is fat.

The sky is many colours... And my mum isn't fat.

Not what my dad said <---- debate screwballed.

Don't you talk about my mum!

It still didn't disprove the sky is blue <----- home run.

I'm not sure it's a valid point. Every movement has had unwanted hangers on and it's been up to them to distance them selves.

So as long as civil rights movements like GLAAD and even dear old George Takei, are clear that these people wishing Phelps dead, are nothing to do with them that's to be respected.

A while ago, Anders Brevick claimed to admire then EDL before carrying out his massacre. Tommy Robinson in a barnstorming newsnight interview said, he supported us, we didn't support him.

That's kinda the point. It's as true for the EDL as it is for anyone else.

Another valid point.
